FYI,
I use the GPS on my left upper arm so readablity of smaller fonts is no problem.
The distance is not more then 25 centimeters away from the left eye.
Boom mount might be a different use case but I do not use that.
@ Freezer, thanks for let me know the workaround with the start speed. Never thought of that.
I learn everyday.
All my jibes are always 100% perfect :-) so I never have time to read the status screens.
@ Jan, thanks for adapting. Will test this evening.
Have a nice surf day,
Paco
Hello Jan,
Thanks,
The new 5.88 version with the time is nice and usable for my purpose.
As you mentioned as negative point the progression bar goes through the time after a while.
That popped up the question what does the progression bar does?I have never used it to read as a valuable optical thing.
What is the trigger to reset the bar?
Tomorrow a new surfday with latest 5.88 firmware and also a new case at Wolderwijd.
Paco
The progress bar reflects the distance after a jibe or a stop. On most of the speed-screens, 100% length is a nautical mile (1852m). So if you go for a fast mile, you can easily seehow long to go on with the attempt.
If you have the alfa speed-screen, the 100% progress bar reflects 250 m. This give you a reference when the alfa is completed.
If you have the 1 hour or 0.5hour speed screen, the bar reflects the passed time after a 1 min stop. 100% is then 60 or 30 minutes.
There is a setting(1) where the speed-screens switches depending on the distance after a jibe :
First 350 m, the alfa screen.
Between 350 m and 1852m, the RUN / AVG screen
After 1852 m , the NM screen.
There is a setting in the configuration where you can change the 1852 m to a higher value.
I will shorten the bar in the next update, so it will not interfere with the time.
Greetings, Jan.

Thanks Jan for the explanation. For my use case not needed but I asume others are highly depending on it.
Would be nice if the next version up would have time in screen 5 and 6 and shorter progression bar.
Do not know if other screen will benefit from a time part too.
No hurry.
BTW I tested the 213BN and the 214B74 side by side and B74 is not fading at all and it was very sunny but no wind.In regular use BN can be used without a problem when wearing on the upper arm.

Hi,
Great GPS development.
Do you have any plans to produce those for some riders ?
Would love to get my hand on one to replace my Motion.
Thanks
Brendan

I send you a personal message. Greetings, Jan.
So here is my last and final iteration of this DIY ESP32 GPS project initiated by Jan.
Weighs 141 gram ready to go with a 1S-2000 mAh Lipo. Enough juice for a days usage.
Beitian BE220 GPS for low current draw. 26 sats with ease even under the Lilygo pcb.
Green led for indication of button press.
Red led for charge indication.
Press button instead of magnet
Inductive charging coil.
Strap is elastic 40mm witdh.
0.7 mm screen cover waterproof sealed with acryl double sided tape.
The tape can be removed and new tape can be freshly reapplied with same screen cover in case of a problem.
House/case and top cover printed in black PETG @ 0.2 mm layer height.
Topcover purely for estatics not for waterproofing.
213B74 LilyGo T5 for no fading.

Can some one add this link to the place where all versions are gathered?
Detailed manual is in the making.
Thanks, Paco

Thanks Jan.
I also added the new manual to the printables page.
In case you wonder if 3D design is a single try? No way.
One try leads to an other even while printing you think he why didnt I try that and change the design and abort the 2,5 hour print. The pile up has lead to that ONE design that worked and I am satisdfied with to share.
Hi my name Benny I ame windsurfer / foil from Denmark so sorry for my poor English

Even without a config.txt file on the sd card, the logger should boot and directly show a screen. Then, it should be possible to start the ESP32AP accespoint when activating the GPIO39 for 1 s (pushbutton or reed contact). Can you make a screenshot and show us where you are stuck ?
Greetings, Jan.
Quick question, does the T-board need a usb to serial converter also?
Im in, just ordered parts...
regards
No, the T5 lilygo board with the 2.13" e-paper has the serial-usb converter on board.
The lilygo webshop has the best price. Go for the B74 version (15$), as it has the best contrast in direct sunlight.
Greetings, Jan
while testing stuff with other gps hardware (gt31, apex) i noticed a -1 hour time offset in the esp's logs, no matter how i set timezone and dst. the filenames' time stamps are correct though.
i just can't figure out what i'm missing, appreciate help!
cheers, basti.
On which SW-version you are on now, and which filetype (gpy, sbp, ubx....) do you use ?
There was a bugfix for time in SW 5.87 :
###Changes SW5.87
* Timezone & DST bugs in gpy file correction
Greetings, Jan.
thanks for the heads up, jan. i'm using the t-display on latest fw 5.87. initially i logged .sbp only, then switched all other types on as well just to check - same behaviour across all log file types.

Maybe the SW of the T-display has not yet the bug fix, I'll check it out !
My Tboard already working and connected, waiting for the gps to arrive.
Where is it to solder the positve of the wireless charger? there is a pic for the paper display but could you please indicate where is it in the Lcd board?
thanks

One of the areas marked in RED can be connected to the + terminal of the a wireless charger (charger IC TP4054). The - connection can be to a GND (marked in blue). Alternative, one can used a wireless charger module with a USB-C connector.

Hi Jan, just going through a build with two B74 boards and BE280 GPS. The build manual quotes :-
"If you have a ublox M10 gps, you need next files (BN and B74 screens) : github.com/RP6conrad/ESP-GPS-Logger/tree/master/Bin_files_ubloxM10"
but this link contains no file. Am I missing something?
Cheers,
Detlev

There is now a "auto detection" feature in the sw : with the first boot, the sw will test different baudrates, and then test which type of ublox is connected (M8, M9 or M10 ublox). The result is then stored in eeprom. If you ever change the hardware, you can set in the configuration to do this "auto-detection" again. So, just take the latest SW5.88 for the B74 screen.

Awesome, thank you !!
Made up a couple of T-display units and shoulder case a month ago but forgot to post here. Suits Be-180 GPS. Used a 1000mA hr battery to keep form factor small as test with display on lasted 9hrs logging with this sized bat. With display off when moving enabled should last longer but haven't tested that as yet. Using a USB-C charge mat makes only a few easy solder connections required.
Only had 1 day of wind to try it out since making it but worked fine but was a struggle with my eyes to read display in the sun. Completed unit is about 1/2 the size of the e-paper version. The T-display has a Led when USB power applied which is useful for wireless charging. Of course I managed to scratch the outer screen when filing down to size after gluing. Thanks again for Jan for all the effort.
The print and more details/pics at www.printables.com/model/1014912-shoulder-mount-case-for-jan-heynens-t-display-diy
I noticed today that the T-display has a 8 mA deep-sleep current ! I forgot to send the display driver in deep-sleep... In the next update, the deep-sleep is decreased to 1 mA.
Greetings, Jan.
