The weekend is almost upon us again and the fantastic winter weather just keeps coming :)

Our newest recruit Sam is returning on Saturday for lesson #2. If he continues to improve like he did in just a couple of hours last Saturday he's going to be sailing on his own in no time.

We'll be starting his lesson at 11am on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club. Come down and join us and see how easy it is to learn to windsurf.

Lyndon, Pete and I will be also going for a sail in the afternoon and probably a few short races, so anyone that wishes to join us is also welcome, any board, any sail and any ability.

See you there.

What a cracking winters day to be out on the water, which started with giving our newest member to the windsurfing community (Sam) his second lesson, which lasted a couple of hours.

He continued with his great form from his first lesson and is without doubt the only person I've taught to windsurf in over 30 years that has not had a fall in his first two lessons! Furthermore, he's tacking and gybing to port and starboard and sailing on both tacks. Just a little more familiarity and he'll be sailing completely on his own. Here's a few pics of him on lesson #2 yesterday.

Thanks to Lyndon for the loan of the Naish beginner board and 5m soft sail.

Yesterday say the launch of Lyndon's new BIC Techno One Design 8.5m rig, complete with the MITO Logo's.

For those of you that don't know, Lyndon is doing a Whitsunday Island hop windsurfing adventure later this year and is using this to gather charity donations and provide exposure for research for MITO (mitochondrial disease).

For more information about mitochondrial disease please refer to the following link.

www.mito.org.au/

If you would like to donate to Lydnon's Charity, you can contact him here on Seabreeze, his user ID is Heavy1.

Here's a couple of pictures of the board and Rig Lyndon will be using for his Island hop adventure.

Good morning all,

Saturday is fast approaching yet again and the weather forecasters are predicting yet another cracking 19C blue sky winters day with light breeze.

This week be perfect conditions for our newest recruit Sam who is keen as mustard and is returning on Saturday for lesson #3. If he continues to improve like he did in just a couple of hours the
last two Saturday's he's going to be sailing on his own in no time.

We'll be starting his lesson between 11am and 11:30am on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club. Come down and join us and see how easy it is to learn to windsurf. Sam is killing it!

What a spectacular winters day in Gosford!!! Clear blue skies and 20C, just very little wind :(

Sam got out for about an hour though and still no falls after 3 lessons. He's seriously killing it!. Here's a few more pics of him in action, and a few of Lyndon and Pet who got out for a muck around.

This Saturday 10th August we will not be sailing from the Club at Gosford. Given the forecast it will be too windy for beginner lessons. I may head up to Budgewoi if the forecast holds true, or if it's a little lighter may foil from either Green Point or Saratoga SC. We will be back in businesses on Sat 17th August and will post next week with details

You will not be shocked to hear that I have bought another board.
As I've been looking for a twin fin for some time I grabbed it when it came up.
The only twins, (other than wave boards) that I know of are a bic techno twin that has odd fin bases so thats not ideal; an F2 ,vegas which would be good but rare; and this new naish board .

Naish Kailua 160 litre.
Nice flat tail rocker for speed potential.
Big nose rocker ,(could still go in waves)

I tried it with a 7m at budgie. It was so very easy to sail due to ample volume and no real risk of hitting bottom.

Felt very planted. Not very fast though.

Twin fins felt as if they were giving rock solid lift, but then the windward fin would cavitate very easily. (weird contradiction)
With the windward fin cavitating the leeward fin seemed to stay true, and you just crabbed along somewhat sideways.

I suspect some sort of interaction is going on between the fins. (but I still need to fine tune their seating in the box, which may help. )

Nice stuff Paul. If you want to keep planing through your gybes more , try leaning forward more, it'll keep the board flatter and faster which makes the rig transition much easier.

Good morning all,

After a couple of weeks away for me I'll be back at Gosford Sailing Club this Saturday from about midday with Lyndon, Pete and Sam. We rig up on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club.

The forecast is looking light, which will be great for a newest windsurfer Sam to get in some solid practice.

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to come down and start windsurfing with us, beginners are welcome and we offer lessons to anyone interested, so what are you waiting for?

If you're an experienced windsurfer we'd also love to have you join us, we sail in virtually any conditions and wind strength, so some down and meet everyone, better still being your gear and come for a sail with us.

See you Saturday.

Good morning all,

Here comes the weekend again - and it's starting to feel like summer already! Bring it on!

We'll be back at Gosford sailing club again this weekend from around midday, you can find us on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club.

Our new recruit Sam continued mastering the sport last weekend in slightly windier conditions. While he found it more challenging with more breeze and more chip he's starting to put all the pieces together nicely - rig positioning, foot placement, foot pressure, and rig balance and power control. It's great to see that moment when it all works in unison! Keep it up Sam, you're doing great!

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to come down and start windsurfing with us, beginners are welcome and we offer lessons to anyone interested, so what are you waiting for?

If you're an experienced windsurfer we'd also love to have you join us, we sail in virtually all conditions and in any wind strength, so come down and meet everyone, better still bring your gear and come for a sail with us.

One of our other members (Heavy1 - Lyndon) has arrived in the Whitsundays for his Windsurfing for Research Whitsunday Island hop adventure and weather permitting should be starting today. I wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing the pictures and daily updates. Good morning all,

It's Friday - wahoo! What's even better is we're now into Spring which marks the start of the Summer Sailing season and warmer temperatures which brings those much loved Nor Easters - #winning!

We'll be back at Gosford sailing club again tomorrow from around 11:30am, you can find us on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club. Racing commences from 2pm with sailboards starting approx 2:25pm.

I'm told our newest beginner Sam is chomping at the bit to get back on the water after just 1 weekend away. With light to moderate breeze forecast he'll be continuing to master the sport as he builds on the skills he's already learnt.

Pete and I were joined by Tucker for the first time last weekend, it's great to see our numbers growing, with a little luck we might have 10 our more boards on the water this summer.

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to come down and start windsurfing with us, beginners are welcome and we offer lessons to anyone interested, so what are you waiting for?

If you're an experienced windsurfer we'd also love to have you join us, we sail in virtually all conditions and in any wind strength, so come down and meet everyone, better still bring your gear and come for a sail with us, or if you need some gear to loan message us here and we'll see what we can arrange.

One of our other members Lyndon (Heavy1) has now begun his Windsurfing for Research Whitsunday Island hop adventure. He has been blogging his progress when possible. If anyone would like to follow his blog or make a donation to his fund raising for Mitochondria disease, please follow the link below (it'd be great to see the entire Windsurfing community support this worthy cause and I know a number of you have already - thank you. Good morning all,

It's with considerably sadness that I advise that Gosford Sailing Club has advised they are no longer able to support the Sailboard class in their regular Saturday summer racing program! Considering we were just starting to build our numbers of regular members, this is extremely disappointing. For me personally it's even more saddening as I have always considered Gosford Sailing Club as my home club.

While we won't be racing with the club, we will still be back at Gosford Sailing Club again tomorrow from around 11:30am, you can find us on the waterfront side of the carpark on the southern side of Gosford Sailing Club. There won't be any official racing, but depending who shows up we will set a course on fixed marks and race amongst ourselves, as we do through winter.

Our newest member to the group Sam experienced his best day yet last Saturday, that moment when his first few lessons all came together and he is now sailing back and forth across Brisbane Waters on his own. The smile on his face said it all! Well done Sam.

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to come down and start windsurfing with us, beginners are welcome and we offer lessons to anyone interested, so what are you waiting for?

General info
Our newest member to the group Sam had another great day last Saturday. It was his first day on a Raceboard (Mistral Competition SST) and he loved it. He could immediately feel how much quicker it glided through the water, To be quite honest, I think he's already hooked on windsurfing, he will be coming to the regatta at Saratoga, not to compete, but he will be getting in some more practice, so any beginners interested, come down and speak to Sam about how easy it is to learn to windsurf.

Come join us in making windsurfing great again!

Heat 1 - 2019/2020 NSW Summer Raceboard Series
Last weekend saw the 2019/2020 NSW Summer Raceboard Series kick off at our very own home club (Saratoga Sailing Club) and what a weekend it was, beautiful weather and a wide range of breezes to suit just about everybody.

We were also joined by the Windsurfer Class which always makes for a great weekend of fun and rivalry.

Congratulations to Cam Harrison who was unbeatable with 8 wins from 8 races, he's clearly the man to beat this season. Congratulations to Richie Reynolds who took out a close faught 2nd place over James Grunfelder. Well sailed James.

Provisional results for Heat 1

Saratoga Sailing Club were wonderful hosts for the entire weekend and they excelled on all fronts - regatta preparation, race organization, safety focus and the canteen and Saturday night BBQ were all superb. For more details about Saratoga Sailing Club and more pictures of the weekend go to the clubs website. www.sarasail.org.au/

The feedback from visiting sailors was that they loved both the venue and the friendly club members and they are looking forward to Saratoga being a regular series heat location.

A big thank you to the committee and members at Saratoga Sailing Club.

This weekend

Saratoga are hosting the Hartley TS16 State Titles, as our windsurfing members are helping out with hosting this regatta there is no racing at Saratoga this weekend. Anyone wishing to windsurf from the club is more than welcome though, so come down and introduce yourselves to us.

Windsurfing for Research - (MITO)

Lyndon (Heavy1) has completed his Whitsunday Island Hop adventure and he gave a talk about this at Saratoga Sailing Club last Saturday night. I was very surprised at some of the challenges he faced that had never crossed my mind, like being attacked by crows, shark and Kangaroo sightings etc.

To read his blog please visit the following link which also includes a brief introduction to Mitochondria disease.

Yeah, after sailing 'round Lion Island countless times over the years, I've always thought that the part of the bay north of the Island would be a great place for a regatta. Maybe a neutral site for a Pittwater V's Gosford regatta?

Hi Jethrow,
Im up for it but Im mad, and have lots of safety gear.
Carry VHS and have licence. Carry mobile phone water etc
Also carry extendable paddle.
Im just back from solo windsurf the whitsundays and would love to explore.

I think the other gosford people feel the danger level is inappropriate. In fact it would be worse from palm beach .
Unless you have a boat back up.

However given you are already doing the crossing , let me know a few days in advance and if the weather is reliable and I will meet you out there for some exploring.

Re a formal regatta.
Not sure it isnt a bit isolated and also some weather systems could make it pretty wild.
Long way for sydney people to drive. Nearly 1 hr past Gosford.

Long way for sydney people to drive. Nearly 1 hr past Gosford.

Size of the body of water, Bit over 2km wide and 6km+ long from lions island up to bend.
That compares to similar 2km from point fredoto saratoga, but less than 4km from Kooliwong up to the base of caroline bay .
Its much more protected than the east of lions.
Some traffic but diffuse.
Some slight sense of ocean swells but very little. Exponentially worse east of lions island.
However could get uggly in any type of squall. (guessing especially south west, very long fetch to build up chop)

Thumbs Up

We sailed lasers off Patonga about 10 years ago. Very strong NE with swells big enough to lose sight off the boat and mast 100 metres ahead
