Hi guys,
Me and my husband just moved to Umina and want to find a place where we can windsurf. We came to Gosford sailing club a few times but never saw anyone on the water (including today)! Can someone please advise where and when people sail?
Cheers!
Hi Mishka,
welcome to the Central Coast. There is a group of us that race most Saturdays from the sailing club at Gosford. We mainly race longboards such as the race board and have a nice little fleet of Windsurfer LT,s developing. The only time we generally don't race is if we have an away regatta. What sort of boards do yourself and your husband sail ??
thanks Pete
Hi Pete,
Thank you for your reply. We have freeride gear, and were sailing before in Botany Bay. I hope there will be a race next Saturday, so we could stop by and say hello. Is there anyone windsurfing in Gosford outside of the racing days? Or are there any other spots that people go to?
Cheers!
Hi Mishka,
should be racing next Sat at the club, will be updated later in the week. Umina can be ok in a South to South Easter.Green Point boat ramp is good for a NE, the Ne generally takes longer to reach Gosford and is never as windy as right on the coast. budegwoi and Buff point can be very good in a NE, you will need a delta weed fin though as very shallow and thick weed.Great place to set a PB for speed.

HI Mishka,
Welcome to the Central Coast and sorry we've missed you so far. This forum is usually the best place to find out what we are planning on doing and where we'll be sailing each weekend. I usually post our Saturday plans each Thursday or Friday.
As Pete has already said there's about 5 regulars now sailing at Gosford most Saturdays, except for when there are Regattas on, which January is quite hectic.
The Raceboard and Formula Nationals are on from 20-23 Jan at Myall Lakes, then the Windsurfer Class Nationals are on from 24-27 Jan at Toronto. So I'm afraid I'll be away the next two weekends
I haven't spoken to the guys to confirm, but I suspect they will be racing at Gosford Sailing Club next Saturday, but probably not the following weekend as we'll all be at the Windsurfer Nationals.
Racing at Gosford starts at approx 14:20 each Saturday for Sailboards. We usually leave the club from 13:30.
If you're sailing mid week feel free to post here, the guys do sometimes sail during the week if they have time off, however it is quite random.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
John
Hello everyone,
Saturday is upon us again and the forecast looks good, we'll at least it does early in the day.
It's a busy week ahead with the Raceboard /Formula National titles at Myall Shores (20-23 Jan) on the NSW mid north coast which I'll be attending, followed by the Windsurfer Class National Titles at Toronto amateur sailing club (24-27 Jan) which all or current members are attending (good luck Peter D, Peter S, Lyndon, Cline and Al).
We've had a couple of enquiries in the past week from people interested in joining us at Gosford, and I look forward to meeting you all (I'll be back racing at Gosford on the 2-Feb-2019, so hope you can ask make it then.
Peter S and Cline are planning on racing at Gosford tomorrow, unfortunately Lyndon, Peter D and I are unable to make it. If anyone would like to join Pete and Cline the race starts at 2:20pm, but the guys should be at the club from about 1pm (meet on the foreshore in front of the car park on the southern side of the club).
It doesn't matter what board you have or what size sail you have, come down and join in the fun.
Yep I will be at the southern side of the club, from about 12.30, forecast is looking nice.good luck to John at the RB nationals

Cheers Pete.
Due to the Australian Windsurfer Class Australian titles being held at Toronto NSW, there will be no Sailboards at Gosford tomorrow.
See you the following Saturday
After a very enjoyable and somewhat very successful Raceboard and Windsurf national titles last week, the Gosford Windsurfer crew will be back at Gosford Sailing club racing again this Saturday.
Anyone interested in joining us is most welcome, even if you just want to come for a social sail. All types of boards and all abilities are welcome.
We'll be at the club from around midday, briefing is at 1pm and racing from 2:20pm.
We look forward to seeing you.
We have a house on the CC at Tascott and are thinking about moving there. If we did I'd like to buy a Windsurfer.

You'd be in a perfect location to access the water and join us at Gosford, you could sail across for the briefings at the club.
If you're up here any Saturday please come down to the club and join us.
Have you windsurfed before? If not we could assist with lessons and a loan board to get you started. Then you could figure out what type of board to buy once you have the basic skills. Alternatively if you're currently in Sydney, I know Dobroyd Aquatic Club at Rodd Point offer an 8 session learn to windsurf program that is due to commence very soon, this isn't free but the instructors are very good. If you need their contacts let me know, although there is a recent post in the NSW forum section that includes these details.
Looking forward to seeing you soon
Good afternoon all,
Well the forecast is looking mighty dodgy for this Saturday, however with a wide range of boards to choose from I'm sure we'll find something to make the most of the conditions.
Racing is on, so come on down and join us, or even just come and say hello and meet the regular Gosford crew. The club is open and they have a great selection of food and drinks.
Racing starts at 2:20pm and I aim to be at the club from about midday.
Hope to see you then.
John
Good morning all,
The weekend is again almost upon us, the forecast is looking better day by day and definitely much better than last Saturday already, last Saturday turned out pretty damn good in the end.
This Saturday I'll be taking my Raceboard out for a spin, I need the training as Heat 5 of the NSW Summer Raceboard Series is on at Kurnell this Sunday (along with the Formula & Foil state titles and the Windsurfer & BIC Techno events which are in conjunction with the Kurnell Cup - see the other NSW posts for details).
So come and join us at Gosford sailing club from 12-12:30pm on Saturday, we'd love to meet you and for you to join us for a sail.
John
Good Morning everyone,
Last minute update, the NSW State Etchell titles are being hosted by Gosford Sailing Club this weekend, so there is no club Racing.
As a result the Sailboard crew have decided to launch from Saratoga Sailing Club.
Some of the guys will be there from 11am as we have a lesson to conduct for one of our newsest team members.
As always everyone is welcome, so come down and meet everyone and come for a sail.
Good morning everyone,
Saturday is fast approaching and the forecast is looking great for a solid 20+ knot southerly.
For me that means I'll be taking my Raceboard for a spin, but Cline said he'll be there on his Windsurfer LT.
So choose your weapon and come and join us for some Saturday afternoon racing and fun on the water.
Race starts at 2:20pm, but I'll aim to be at the club about midday. The Sailboard crew rig on the foreshore on the southern side of the club
See you there.

Looking forward to joining you guys on Saturday. Good to get out in a southerly and get in some practice before Woollahra in a few weeks. Sailing at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club on Sunday.
I havnt written for a while.
had a good time on saturday, despite not being as fast as I might.
First time I used an adjustable downhaul and also first time using my RSX 9.5 sail. But I sailed phantom and pete tried the RSX.
I enjoy the RSX for a nice relaxing reach when the wind is 12 to 16 knots, with plenty of volume and a CB to get home if things go wrong. BUT to race Pete reported it as not desirable, well those werent his exact words. Any way its available to try for people who would like to join us some time.
Now I rigged my sail with too much extension and the adjustable downhaul was blocking getting my boom down to the right height, but it wasnt too bad so I pressed on . Then the wind really came up. I fully down hauled the sail which was awsome, but my arms quickly fatiged with everything out of balance. the wind lightened but I was struggling to hold the boom so I left the sail down hauled to the max. That meant I really couldnt point properly.
But I did learn heaps and had a couple of good gybes which is great for the confidence. And my arms recovered for the run home.
So I now know lots more and I shouldnt make the boom mistake again. And im ver impressed with the amazing range of the RSX 9.5. Just need to make sure I get balanced and relax onto my harness, rather than burning my arms out.
Great afternoon out on Saturday. Thanks Pete, Lyndon and Cline for joining me.
I also had my RS:X 9.5m rig up on my Starboard Phantom 377, which was pretty close to perfect for the conditions.
The breeze was up and down a little with some occasional rain squalls, but I was planing upwind 100% of the time and 95% of the time downwind. Was just a bit light to get full planing gybes every time. Still, if the breeze was like that every time I went sailing I'd be pretty happy
Pity the club would not let us race, the ironic thing was we went round the same course anyway ????.I like the RSX for social sailing, reachinv etx but as a racing board in those conditions it was much choosing between board or down going upwind
Good morning everyone,
The end of the week is upon us again and you all know what that means!
That's right, tomorrow is race day!
So come and join the guys and I at Gosford Sailing club for a an afternoon of racing and everything windsurfing.
I'll be at the club from 12:30pm, racing starts at 2:20pm.
I'll be on my Raceboard for a training day as Sunday is Heat 6 of the NSW Raceboard series, which is a combined event with the BIC Techno (youth) Rippers series nd Windsurfer Class summer series at Woolhara Sailing club.
Good morning and happy Friday folks,
We have a 12-15 knot South Easter forecast for tomorrow which should be great.
We also have 2 new starters having lessons from around 10:30am. So come on down and see us, whether it be for a lesson, a sail or just a chat. The summer season is rapidly drawing to a close so come and enjoy it while the water temps are still warm.
With the forecast I think I'll be on my Raceboard, but all boards are welcome.
The forecast for tomorrow is looking rather light, which is a pity as I desperately need some foiling practice.
Regardless there will still be racing at Gosford tomorrow (the beauty of Longboards) so come down and say hello. Racing starts at 2:20pm, so we leave the shore from about 1:45pm.
I aim to be at the club from about 12:30pm, so come down for a sail or even just a chat we'd love to meet you, and have you join us. Racing starts at 2:20pm, so we leave the shore from about 1:45pm.
Due to Heat 4 of the NSW Formula/Foils series to be held at Lake Illawarra tomorrow, there is no racing at Gosford tomorrow
Some if the regular Gosford guys are headed to Budgewoi to do some speed runs. Feel free to join them for a blast if you wish, they'd enjoy the company.
See you so next week.
Good morning all,
Sailing is back on tomorrow at Gosford Sailing Club, however at this point it looks like just me, so I welcome anyone that wishes to join me. I'll be at the club from around 12:30pm on the foreshore in front of the carpark on the Southern side of the club.
Sunday we are returning to Saratoga Sailing Club at 10am where the club is holding an open day. I encourage anyone interested in Sailing, Dragonboating or Windsurfing to come down and check out out. More info on the following link :-

SARATOGA SAILING CLUB And DEEPWATER DRAGON BOAT CLUB OPEN DAY
We are opening our doors to friends, neighbours and interested members of the public on Sunday 7th April 2019 from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm
Hi all,
Just a heads up about Saratoga open day.
Im bringing 2 beginner boards with a super easy inflatable sail and with a tiny light sail on the second board.
Both are suitable for total beginners and kids down to about 7 yrs of age, as long as they are confident in the water.
I will bring suitable life vests for kids or adults.
The water is still really warm, so most of us aren't using wet suits, but don't forget sun protection.
There will also be a starboard gemini tandem board which is both very stable and heaps of fun.
If you are a total beginner, a good first lesson is to take a turn on the front of the gemini with an instructor on the rear sail.
If its moderately windy you can be planing on your first ever turn
Our race starts at 2pm so Id advise that you turn up before 12md if you want lots of help.
The saratoga launch is sandy and a bit muddy further out. Its very shallow for a long way which is nice for beginners. as long as the tide isnt too low.
If you cant arrive until 3 or 4 pm, ask nicely and I can probably organise some fun after racing.
Dragon boat sounds fun... I hope they give us a go on that
So yes it's true!
The official summer sailing season has now ended. So the big question is "What are we going to do through winter on Saturday and Sunday afternoons"
"Go Windsurfing" Is the correct answer!
The Gosford crew sail year round, so we'll be a at the waterfront on the southern side of Gosford sailing club from around 12:30pm most Saturdays starting from tomorrow. We'd love to have you come join us for a relaxing and more social sail. Any board and any rig welcome, and if you need lessons then we can assist with those too.
Sunday we are all planning on heading to Toronto Sailing club on Lake Macquarie with our Windsurfer LT's to help build their clubs fleet.
Easter weekend is upon us and the forecast is looking like it's going to be light .
Regardless given the beauty of Longboards versatility we'll still be racing on Saturday.
So come down and join us from 12:30pm Saturday on the Waterfront side of the carpark on the Southern side of Gosford sailing club.
If you have never windsurfed before then come and get a free lesson! I promise you'll be windsurfing in no time, and why wait, the water is still warm!
