Pity not a good tide for VP being late in the day but Mon and Tues late arvo may be ok if wind kicks in. Then maybe early morning later in the week, will have to wait and see what develops ......
Yep, the BOM model doesn't show the wind coming into Sandstone at all and staying in the centre of the bay. We'll see what Tuesday brings hey.
Got a short sail in today but weed was terrible. Big clumps especially down towards the creek and it stinks as well. Not nice. Might have to look seriously at a weed fin! Looks good tomorrow arvo, but will be a late one to catch the tide.
More and more boats getting moored at Thompsons!
Also I see the council or someone is going to construct two rock walls/groynes in an effort to retain the sandy beach. Hope it doesn't restrict our sail area??
Short sail is better than no sail. Sadly weed fins have become my most used fins, on a windy day- fine but if you're flat out trying to pump up onto the plane, not so much. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. The forecast says I'll need a 9, then a 7.5, then a 6.5 and finally a 5.7 oh an a big board , then a short board then a wave board....see you tomorrow, I'll bring EVERYTHING
Arrggghh me hearties....
The wind lived up to willy's forecast 7.3 then 6 then 5m weather.
I measured the wind at 25 with gusts to 27 and it only kept getting stronger.
The Vicci point pirates came out of the woodwork for the big one as expected.
there were as many sailors as kites- and it was bloody busy out the front.
The little blobs of black weed were there just to add some interest too.
Some booty left behind after - big Nobby Phillips screwdriver and a yellow downhaul cleat. I have the driver and Greg has the downhaul cleat.
I'll have to check the wind in the morning and decide whether to have a morning or afternoon sail-or both-??
I started out on the 7.3 and after an hour or so I came in for a spell and a bunch of buccaneers were rigging 6's and 5.5's
I went out again after changing to a weed fin and the breeze kicked in.
A shorter session and then came in to changed to a 5.7 and by the time I finished rigging the others came in to change down boards or sails. I went out anyway and got slapped around for a while and then knocked off for the day. Should have rigged 5.2 and used the 95l bump and jump. Maybe tomorrow..
I left my yellow downhaul cleat there on Monday arvo. Not around this week, but will be the following weekend. I'm have the Starboard SUP sail. Thanks for letting me know!
Wo hoo!!! It came in late but it come in.
Where was everybody?
like yesterday but without the BIG gusts, I sailed 6.6 fully powered up on the 128 x76 w slalom wth weed fin and then changed down to 95 x 59w b&j .
I ran out of puff before the wind did (as usual)
only four of us out there and no kites?????
Where was everybody??
I saw it blowing at the Banana Banks and Gold Coast, and thought it was on it's way.
It was an absolute waste of a whole day at Bribie.
Went up to the lake based on this morning's forecast of 16 -18 knots for most of the day.
I measured the best gust of the day at 8.4 knots

Err, well, umm, yes, all day workshop off-site....
Where was everyone? Martin and I and two kites and a lady walking her dog..
the two kites kept out of the way as they were 50 ft in the air most of the time
i reckon it was 20+ and over 25 knots in the gusts.
I spent the session on 6.6 koyote and JP65 slalom. Thought I had finally cracked the 30 knots when my gps Logit was telling me "28, 29, 30, 29, 29," and I thought wahoo finally but when I came ashore and looked it read 29.65 so what it was really saying was "28, 29, 30(just kidding), 29, 29"
oh well, roll on Burrum Windfest.
I had a 32 UNifiber Lessacher weed fin which doesn't spin out in the chop and still goes upwind. (For a weed fin) It got lumpy towards the end as the tide came in. Nothing like Turners on a good day.
Maybe I do miss Bribie

When did you move to Brisbane? I remember you were living in Bribie Island?

In Nov but we've been away a lot,
Only sailed vicci point recently.
Did anyone sail today?
I was watching Willy this morning and as the wind picked up to 16+ knots I went to vicci point and when I arrived there was about 5 knots. I asked a couple of people if there was any wind and someone said " a squall came thru half an hour ago"
So I came home ??????
"Where was everyone?"
I know- working, mowing the lawn for brownie points....
only two of us out and the wind built till it was about 20 kts in the gusts, I had 7.8 blade on my slalom and Jinx was trying out a new 5.7 severne wave sail.
High tide and breeze, who could ask for more?
It'll come in this arvo Mal, you'll just need to find somewhere down your way with enough water. Maybe not Pirate Pete with his crazy delta and weed fins.
How good is a northerly. 6.7 on the 118 super sport. Fully lit up, on the edge of control. Such fun. Pinging back and forward between Pt. Halloran and Coochie.
Hi all. Well it had to come, a gear choice question to the group from the beginner . I'm ready to move on from SUP I've been learning on to get an intermediate board to progress (especially as SUP has no foot straps). At about 80-85kg, and still wanting to be able to uphaul (haven't quite mastered deep water start), I'm thinking I need something about 115 to 125 litre. I think where we sail, a Freeride board might be the best style. Budget dictates second hand gear, and I'm not too fussed on condition as I'm sure I'll bang it around a bit. The closest thing I've seen on Seabreeze or Gum Tree is a 2016 AHD Fast Forward 130L. So.... Any recommendations?
Hey Dazza, you'll want a freeride board 150 to 170 litres and anywhere up from 80cm wide. This will be nice and stable for you to tack and uphaul and will still get up and boogie with the right power. If you're sailing with Pete, get him to compare where you are at with your sailing with where Adam and myself (his Bribie apprentices) are at and that'll help with your purchase. Adam is using Pete's old 140L Naish that's under 80cm wide, he's your weight and he can tack and uphaul on it and is starting to gybe regularly, however in my opinion (and usually his opinion) he sails better on his older 150 litre Starboard Go which is wider than 80cm. I'm 100kg and use a 154 litre JP board that's 84cm wide and can uphaul and tack on it easily but can't gybe properly yet. All boards are freeride boards and we use them in all conditions from 15 to 25 knots and in some pretty rough water. I reckon that AHD may be a bit narrow and a bit low on volume for your skill level jumping off a windSUP, but if you're up for the challenge then give it a crack.

Hi Dale.
I have the 145 Naish Nitrix. Next time you see me down at Thomson's take it for a try. 76 cm wide. Will be there Saturday for sure, tomorrow possibly.
