Managed to get a sail in from around 3 until 4.30. Wind was ok at first & then died. Nice to get in sail following the last few weeks lack of wind.

Good on you Mal, we were at RQ and it wasn't much better.
My first time there and I can see the attraction. It's a great spot.

Had a great sail today, 8.6 turbo and Naish SP slalom. A good turnout of sailors enjoying a weekend winter sail. Evil C and Cocky 2 doing long fast runs over to the island and the rest of us at Thompsons.

Good to get out on the water. Wind was quite variable, but overall not a bad morning.

Saw the trees moving at lunchtime so threw the board in the car and drove around and saw whitecaps so I rigged and by the time I got in the water the whitecaps disappeared.... I planed out and that was that for the next hour. Still, an hour on the water planing or not beats tiling the bathroom. I managed to pack up just before the deluge so all in all not a bad day. Tuesday looks good anyway.

That's how we used to decide on heading down to the beach many, many, many years ago before the internet and seabreeze, willyweather and bom were invented.

Some wind finally!! its been DAYS. Went around to the park near the Russel island ferry at redland to see if anyone else was sailing and saw a car and trailer but couldn't see anyone with the binoculars so went back to Thompsons and saw a guy getting packed up with the same car/trailer setup and asked if he was just around at the ferry and he related his sad tale consisting of a great days sailing until his fin broke, as you would expect, right over the other side. He took two hours to get back in and he could only make it to Thompsons where he had to get a lift back to his car so he could pick up his gear. Check out his track on KA72 location Victoria point, sailor Bugs572
I've been considering carrying a couple of spares in my camel back or at least a phone in a waterproof container and seems like a good idea after hearing his story.
As for me, I rigged 5.7 and made the wind disappear...Sorry about that everyone!
Lets see what tomorrow brings..

I also got a good session in on Monday Arvo off Wellington PT but had to sail a good 2k East of the point to get into an area of constant wind. The story of the bloke who broke a fin has got thinking a bit. I carry a phone, but I wonder how easy is going to be to use it with fumbling wet hands sitting aside a board in choppy water? Might start taking a spare fin for next adventures. How to carry out though? I is there some sort of back pack you can get?

I have a three litre camel back (in a generic brand about $50) which has a number of zippered compartments one of which would be suitable. They're available at camping shops like anaconda.

Hey Pete, Whitworths have IP66 VHF marine hand helds for $180 if you didn't want to risk a much more expensive mobile phone with a lower IP rating whilst sailing. If you get stuck and don't feel like swimming, just radio the VMR to come and grab you and flick them some petrol money. They have an IPX7 one for $250 if you're really worried about water ingress.

I have thought of carrying a spare fin but moist times I have broken a powerbox fin I haven't been able to get the base out of the box so a spare would have been useless. A phone would have been helpful the other day but I guess I made it back eventually. Good thing about Vicky point is at least you'll get to shore somewhere eventually. Might just be an island though.

You're lucky that Adam's not up there with you Pete, he'd have punched a batten screw through those boards to hold them to the tree

Back today after four days at Elanda Point. Had one good days sailing and two days with tow...
Steve joined me for a couple of days sailing so I wasn't on my own and Mike and family arrived after the wind went. That fire was a necessity at night though. Will go back in a couple of weeks when my sister in law and hubby arrive in their van.
