weekend the 8/9th of may. bribie island. depending on conditions we will look at towards the surf side or bongaree
the usual bribie meet was around june and was out winter meet. from this year moving forward the winter meet will now be held at wello!!!!! hence the bribie meet being earlier this year.
quick update.
my lovely wife has reminded me that once again i have planned a windsurfing outing on mother's day.
shame really as there are some good SE's on the cards. so we will aim for the saturday only.
was doing some recon for the meet at bribie and noticed a new feature???? growing up in the caboolture area and spending many weekends windsurfing and 4wding at bribie i have never noticed this before.
a sandbank has formed off woorim beach. it looks to support a starboard tack jump with cross shore winds and a gutter to launch from...... i am thinking that the next wanderers meet will be here.
is there anyone locally that can scope out this bank. is it actually there? i used to swim there and there wasn't a bank so it must be a recent thing? can it be wavesailed? the waves at woorim used to be a shorebreak only.
a closer view with peeling waves. (sort of)
i figure if 15 windsurfers hit the water the lids will disappear. otherwise i'll take my BZ and join them,
to be honest the waves along bribie used to be shocking. the swell would just roll in and dump on the shore. now that the council has formed some banks it might be better but is probably just a bump and jump spot in reality.
but too true. we'll try it and see.
not sure o nthe timing. forecast is backing off but it would be nice to try somewhere different again.
great picture gestalt, how did you get so high up, have thought bribie might be good in strong se, but also thought it might be a bit lonley out there are non members invited,
also just rang the guy at coastal surf at bongaree he said there has been some dredging happening and he thinks there is a bank in front of third ave
ps
only one green arrow left for the weekend.
Here's the Nearmap image for that spot. No bank in this shot (submerged?) taken 23 Jan 2010. One thing pops into mind looking at the number of beach goers in relation to this spot you'd be looking at maybe attempting to sail in/through a patrolled area???!!! Looks like the flags are directly in front of the big SAL block (in this photo).
doesn't look good, could the pic have been taken at near high tide, low on sat is around middle of the day, if it is still there could be good on incomming tide mid afternoon.(there seems to be more greenies around now)
Also i think the volunteer lifesavers have closed up shop untill next season, read something about it in local paper
looks like a diffrerence between tides from google to near photo. that near photo is excellent. looking at the images seems to suggest 2nd ave is the place to be. we will keep an eye on the forecast and make the call closer to saturday. in the end though, if we hit woorim and it's not happening then we can go wherever on bribie.
cheers for doing the research guys.
the other place we used to go was further south at the carpark. not a bad spot also.
hi lungs,
you can come to the meet and check out if you like the club and it's setup. that's the usual approach. then if you like it you should join the club. it's cheap and all members need to be "official".......
I saw the waves breaking on this bar from the air. Its 2.5ks from Red Beach.
I think I might sail out there and check it out.
That looks like what we used to call "Gilligan's Island".
There's a nice bit of windward sailing for you in a SE'ly
ok guys, some more details.
the meet is being sponsored by Caloundra Wind and Surf.
the meeting point will be Second Avenue at Woorim on the surf side of Bribie. conditions are bump and jump or freeride with the ocassional small wave thrown in to jump or carve. (it is bribie)
bbq will not be provided, primarily as the sailing location has no facilities and also so we can be mobile if needed. The plan is to hit the pub (around the corner) after the session for a cheap bite and a schooner.
i have arranged demo gear also.
boards
Caloundra wind and surf have recently become the Lorch Boards importers for australia. there will be several lorch boards at the meet for demo. pete he has asked that people use there own fins with the boards and also asked me to mention breakages need to be covered by the demo'ee .
Sails
KA sails will be available for demo including kults, kaos and koncepts
Simmer sails will also be available for inspection.
SUP's
Sup boards will also be available for demo
One Designs
2 one designs will be one the beach just incase. we can either go for a cruise or catch some waves.
will confirm forecast tomorrow night.
meet will kick off at 1pm if you need my mob number just in case please shoot me a PM.
would bribie be part of moreton bay forecast or the double isl point to point danger forecaast, at the moment i would prefer the later
sorry guys,
yes the meet is planned for saturday. green light will be issued tonight after final check of weather.
Second Avenue can be seen on the image Ian uploaded from near map. so that's just to the north of the people on the beach. you can see the gutter and the waves coming through on the bank.
climber.
i'm not man enough to take on mothers day. [}:)] all other days of the year are game on.
Any idea on what the shore break is likely to be like in SE'ly? In terms of it being managebale to get out through without getting dinged?
Also any parking advice?
^ thoughts are there will be only a small swell. forecast is calling for .9m which translates into 1-2 foot waves.
usually where a gutter occurs there is no shorebreak at low to mid tides as the swell looses it's strength on the outer bank. at high tide swells will roll through but again not be all that strong due to outer banks.
i'd say we won't need to worry at all about a shore break and slalom gear would also work no problems.
so bump and jump conditions.
I was at woorim the other day, not a bad wave spot. Waves breaking a bit too close to the shore, but no probably a tide thing.
Well, I'm go for Bribie! Lets hit it.
Lets hope for some wind, missed a light wind session yesterday
See you all there tomorrow, time to get back on a wave board, been a while
