Here are a few photos from last Sunday at RQ Beach - needed something to do as I couldn't go in Docs orders. Was tough but next weekend I will be out
Are you going to name the culprits?
Hi Sue
Well the ones I know are Simon from boardcrazy orange blade, Jaye sizzle sail, Cammeron RQ Blue neil pride, Ben our older son sizzle and we have met a few of the others but their names escape me atm. But generally a bunch of cool windsurfing people having fun.
Thanks. Don't really know what a sizzle sail looks like ( never heard of them!).
Looks like your sons are going great! It looks pretty choppy in some of those pics.
This week end looks like RQ Beach with the SE - around lunch time.
How did Friday get in the way
See you on the water
Cheers
Morgan
Sunday I am on in-laws duty - Markets, lunch and stuff - doesn't look like any wind to speak of out there for a week. Off to Golden Beach for a week between Christmas and New year woo hoo can't wait to get wet every day for a week or so might get a few days in Burrum Heads too. Lets hope the wind gods are kind to us all through that Period.
Saturday write up is coming over the next couple of days
Have fun
cheers
Morgan

Simmer not sizzle
You know it is very difficult to get me to like another board other than the Mistral Pacifico that I use as my go to board. Simon from Board Crazy in Brisbane has taken the challenge and sent me on a mission to see what I think of this beast. The Starboard Rio Longtail 265L wow that is big, should be stable. The problem we portly people have is we tend to move our weight around too much. To find windsurfing gear that is suitable is a task - the worst part is when you settle on something and get it on the water and can't ride the thing because it is too unstable. That sucks big time. If we continue with the sport we are inevitably going to end up a second board.
First outing - RQ beach Manly, wind seemed to be gusting 5 to 12 and up to 16 later, in other words all over the place. First impression is it is very stable I am sure two people could dance on there and it still not tip - nice. For a larger person stability is something that doesn't seem to be that easy to find out there. Stability = comfort = confidence = more time on the water = sticking with the sport :-)
I rigged the 6.6m Avanti sail with the standard fin that comes with the board. Took about ten to twenty minutes to get my footing and everything in the right place except the foot straps. There are a good number of foot strap positions - I clearly chose the wrong ones to start with at my level.
A couple of positives I noticed - no idea why, maybe because the board is quite a bit wider to the Pacifico, but when I hit the Jelly fish and started slicing and dicing whilst the Pacifico comes off the plane the Rio didn't. Nice :-) Also at one stage I was planning nicely (I thought so) came into a lul and stayed on the plane maybe technique not the board (a couple of briefs from Simon thanks mate) it felt way cool. Did manage to fall off amongst the Jellies but conveniently landed on the sail so shimmied up to the board. Phew....
Stats: Beach Starts 75% (was knee deep in mud at dead low tide yukk!), Tacks 99% (fell off first one new board lol), Gybes tried 3 and successfully completed 2 woo hoo, Planning no problems at all and the Starboard Rio Long Tail felt like it was faster that the old Pacifico when it was game on, Harness 99%, Water starts 25%, smiles yep, I even managed both foot straps twice for about 2mins but made it - I will move them to the 2nd back positions as that was where my feet were most of the time. There is one more thing I would like to ad - I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT BACK IN THE WATER AGAIN :-)
Mal wanted a go so off he went with a smile from ear to ear - nice...
Simon at Board Crazy has a couple of these boards for rental/sale - If you are a learner or have a friend wanting to learn, beginner or intermediate big person go grab one and take it for a spin have a chat with Simon - Great board - lots of fun.
See you out there

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE - Hope Santa brought everything you dreamed of
Merry Christmas from Morgan, Anita, Jaye and Ben
Some one got a bit spoilt yesterday. I think we will be calling Jaye the F2 boy now lol
Thanks to Simon for looking after us on the 104 Sunset Brand new woo hoo - better look after it. And to Glynn/Trev/Ron for the 85L F2 Style 250 Jaye is sooooooo keen to get out in the water Mum says not today although we will see what the wind does
The 104 looks like it will be going the water tomorrow afternoon at Golden Beach
He was so excited yesterday
Might keep him off my Shark - now I will have to work out how to make it work for me.
I will be taking the Starboard long tail for a spin tomorrow too
Cheers
Morgan and Jaye
Took the Rio Long tail for a paddle at Golden Beach this morning --- NICE!! Just like the Pacifico glides well. Man there are even Jelly fish here - no where as many as in the Bay
The wind is not looking too promising today oh well lucky Ben bought his boat might get out for a wakeboard today anyway see what happens. Golden Beach should be good for wake boarding….
Plan for the week
Anita is going for Beach start and bigger sail on the Naish
Jaye is hunting planning gybe on his new 104 F2 Sunset rocket…..
He has a mate here so hoping to get Brendon going on a board with the 3m sail
Ben just to have a sail and another taste of how fantastic this sport really is
Me - Just hoping the wind comes up so I can give this long tail a run for its money and maybe hop on the Shark for a blast
We are here for the week lets hope the wind gods smile down on us lol
See you out there
Cheers

Morgan
No wind gods in Brisbane. Plenty of rain gods at the moment.
Good day for cricket watching.
Have a great week. Might come up for a day later in the week.
Mal
Here at work watching .... Watching...waiting
Back up to the lake this arvo for 4 more days reckon I may come down to golden beech for a visit if the forecast looks better
Cheers Jeff
Anita, Jaye and I had a nice paddle to Bribie this morning still no wind.
I couldn't help myself yesterday afternoon and put the nine and Half Neil Pride sail up - just had to have a go - well the tide was going faster then the sail could get me going so a long walk back. Put the sail on the beach and get the paddle all good like paddling too.
Maybe today - the trees are moving at least that is a sign.
Our grandson Braeden 7 yo is going to the learn to wakeboard at Bli Bli. He is having an hour lesson - if there is some wind he said he wants to jump on the board with me and have a go too…
oops the trees are no longer moving
Have a nice day everyone
Cheers

Well what can I say after no wind yep no wind at all – we got a fresh breeze yesterday woo hoo.
Anita – Naish with the 4.5m Gun Sail – maybe a bit too windy for her but no out she went nice….. Sailed to the sandbar in the middle at Golden Beach struggled a bit getting the sail and board set in the right direction. Morgan to the rescue, I went to help just long enough to get yelled at again lol but was good enough to get her going and Anita sailed back to the bank – and so it begins. I remember getting myself in trouble because of inexperience but as time went by I gained the confidence with my windsurfing to keep having a go knowing I would always get back. (thanks to the Pacifico mostly). Nice job Darls – you are a windsurfer now for some speed…….
I went in the water after 3pm it was a nice breeze I rigged the Neil Pryde 7.5m on the Rio Long Tail. Last time I went out on the long tail I had the foot straps just back too far so I moved them to the 2nd back locations. What a good idea that was. Here I was straight up on the plan and the dang straps couldn’t be more in the way if I tried so stuck my feet in them – how cool was that straight into the foot straps, harness planning and smashing it . So that is what they called locked in. Man that Rio Long Tail is the best board for the beginner/intermediate (don’t tell anyone I said this) but I would have to say it is better than the Pacifico. I didn’t think that was possible – Simon – what have you done to me………..I will be in to discuss on Sunday at your clinic. No photos to prove it as Anita was out sailing too and was so distracted didn’t even notice
Jaye – came in a bit later he had 6.6m Avanti sail set and his nice shiny new F2 Sunset 105 rocket and struggled a bit probs should have had the 7.5 but too bad I had it at least until Ben got there too. Jaye had a smile from ear to ear and was flying along on that nice board.
Ben – bought the Pacifico down for a run and we shared the 7.5m neil pryde – we definitely need another 7.5m. Ben did really well too he was blasting across the channel with ease – planning – if he wasn’t in the straps he was close. Ben for some reason didn’t have his harness with – he must of bumped his head on it getting the Pacifico out from under the house. He will be sore today.
Brendon – Jaye’s mate had a go but fell off twice and gave up – he said that it was frustrating – I said welcome to the sport of windsurfing – see what happens today.
I just have to say it again YES me planning and in both foot straps and that was every run, not just a fluke Looking forward to doing it again today.
And to top the stoke off our daughter had a beautiful baby boy at 3am this morning
Cheers
Morgan
Congrats Morgan and Anita. Family windsurfing and a new addition to the family.
Looks like your getting more wind south than me up here at the lake.
Cheers Jeff
Morgan - Planing in the straps I'm still working on my rear foot. Got to get the foot off the strap and into it

Congrats Morgan and Anita on the birth of your grandson! Great news and a wonderful Xmas/New Year present for your family.
Good work too mate on getting into the straps, harness and on the plane! Sounds like the new board from Simon has done the trick, and the lakes and bays are gonna become much smaller places for you from now on. Mind you, there's been a lot of hard work on your behalf over the last 12 months, and it's great to see it paying dividends now. I never thought I'd see the day Simon would wean you off the Pacifico but there's stopping you now.
See you on the water some time. Jack
Happy New Year to everyone on Seabreeze - may all your dreams come true in 2015. We hope you have a safe, prosperous and windy year.
Have an awesome year
Anita, Morgan, Jaye and Ben
Looks like we are heading to RQ beach mid to late morning for a sail while there is some water
Might bring the Falcon down for a run
Had a good sail yesterday with MalJ at RQ beach
Still have another week so out today at RQ Beach this afternoon looks like the wind is up for a change nice - I have been using the 7.5m sail but not sure I shouldn't resurrect the 9.5m sail as the wind has been light on.
Will be down some time after lunch
I have a question????? - one thing I have noticed is that when I am sailing - if I try to pull the sail back I head up wind still. When I watch experienced sailors they have the sail pulled right back - almost over their heads and seem to still head in a straight line. Yesterday - even in the wind that was I noticed both Cameron and Simon as I watched them head out, had their sails raked back (my understanding of this is to maximise the speed and acceleration) and of course they were moving a lot faster than I. I did feel that when the gusts were there I should have been getting more speed from the outfit, felt like it was being held back a bit. This feeling had to be caused by my current technique. I was on the Rio 165L with the 7.5m neil pryde sail.
I guess with this will come with getting in the foot straps in the rear and out positions instead of intermediate positions.
Interesting sport how it changes with every new step learned.
Cheers

The faster you go the more forward the apparent wind becomes so the more you need to sheet on..GPS fast guys look like they are going upwind when they are going downwind. You wouldn't be going that fast at the moment so it shouldn't affect you as much but exoeriment by bringing the sail on +off a little (don't necessarily rake it back) and see what happens. Do you know about wind direction? Basic sailing terms etc - reach/work/downwind etc?
Sure others can give some tips..

Hi Morgan.
I am not as experienced as most on this forum but I do remember going through this phase. Like you, I experimented with raking back the sail but it destroyed any speed I had. Through my reading of Cribb's articles I learned that an upright rig provided more speed initially. Once you really get going you adjust your trim instinctively which is why some speedsters appear to have sails well raked back or more tightly sheeted in. Apparent wind in action I believe, but don't quote me.
I was hoping to say hello again at Golden Beach during your week long holiday but the winds were non-existent so I missed my opportunity. Great to hear of your progress and the positive vibes you are getting from the sport.
Morgan,
Its all about the relationship of the centre of effort in the sail and the centre of resistance of the board.
When Simon and Cam are planningonly the back third of their boards is in the water. Hence the centre of resitance is in the back third of the board.Hence they can rake their sail back so the centre of effort of the sail is in line with the centre of resistance of the board
If you are not travelling as fast then more of the lengthof the board is in the water so the centre of resistance of the board moves forward. Hence if you rake your sail back then the centre of effort of the sail moves behind the centre of resistance of the board and pushes you tail away from the wind, hence you turn up into the wind
