All you Gong dwellers came to life at once there didn't ya's...no reception on WIN Television tonight? Whyner that footage is nuts! Bloody skillful.
Qwerts your a dead man, I will have you looken like a rainbow after i've finished with you.
P.S: have ya tried the new board?
hey whyner, that video is insane!!! I have tried wakeboarding on a skim board with out fins before and I had no hope!!
I wonder why he's not standing up??
james
I think that surfboard must have a hell of a lot of rail shape and concave to hold it on the wave.
Also just to keep on the original topic. First sail was had on the tabou 73lt Twin yesterday in harbour chop conditions and it was apparently wicked. Will have to get on it myself though before making any proper conclusions.
Twinnies look loose as for riding.
as for jumping - back in the day when thrusters were happening the jumps went to **** cos they didnt jump with straight predictable projection - (same deal with aerials out of the lip)- there semed to be a 15 degree variance (random) in your trajectory - which is death wehn setting up for a big fwd of looking for predictable upwind projection in a backie.
after 2 years i went back to a single and realised that my jumping and aerial skills hadnt actually gone downhill
i am wondering if any of this nonsense will happen with the smaller twin fins?
Just had a go of evil twin 74 at gerroa with 5 mtr aerial projection was alot better then my single fin . looking forward to trying other brands twin fins are made for gerroa .
So gremlin you rate the board for gerroa huh? Good to see you got sum wind today, hows the shoulder?
jpd, how was gerroa today. Heading down for the first assault of the season with the young fella this weekend
Just read the review on boardseeker.com, they've been comparing single and twin directly on the water. Sounds good to me, reckon I want one!
yeh peto board worked well at gerroa mite get some of my old twinnys out .
shoulder ok bit sore today just have to sail like a old man for couple of months good to be sailing again .
Just returned from maui where everyone seems to be riding the JP twinzers except at Hookipa. Don't understand why you would use one for bump and jump stuff but nevertheless they look pretty nice. They look super loose but pretty slow and don't head upwind very well.
Didn't have a go of one myself but had a chat with Kevin Pritchard about the Quatro twinny he was riding. I made the comment that I thought they were the flavour of the month and would be nowhere to be seen next year, he seemed to agree.
In fact a visit to the Quatro factory showed that they had about 15 single fins to 1 twinny in their showroom. Most of the Quatro guys were on single fin jobs at hookipa.
I rode my first twinnie today (evil 80), was a fun ride, they real crank if your on the face of the wave but tend to slow down out in the flat, cutbacks are fun, the first one turned so hard and fast i thought i was going to hit myself in head with the nose of the board, and kept is speed right through the turn.
But my single fin quatro held it's speed out in the flat and tended to go straight back at the wave at full speed. Had more speed on the wave too.
Maybe hookipa is too fast for the twinnies, and a single suits it better..
Hey Peto did you go to birdi today with Ma?
sweet as Ma, looks like your NE seasons started already. you must have looked like Kauli on your Quatro and Boxers..
saw a jp twin today, it did look slowish and i was pointing a fair bit higher....but incredible turning and a lot of POP for the jumps...
at 230cm are boards getting too short?
Rode a JP 84 today. The wind was a bit light at first so it was like towing a bucket and I did not like it at all. Then the wind picked up and it was sweet. Not sure about the volume. Felt more like a 75 to me. Worked better with the fins at the fron too. Wicked board for aerials. Seemed save in the white wash too. Felt much better on a 5.0 than my 5.4. Need one more ride on it before I am convinced. One thing I know for sure is that I would not be my choice if I could only have one board in my quiver.
At our local today the twin fins were out in force. macking 4.5 weather to light 5.3 later, with cross on to cross off head to logo size waves.
The Mistral twin 76 and 84 went under the feet of a number of sailors using sails from 4.7 to 5.8 and the word was all good. Most were surprised by the turning ability and the get up and go for such a short board. more tighter turns than you can poke a stick at.
A couple of evil twin 74's were being thrown around with no downside reported. A 74 kg guy on the 74, used to the 70 ltr as his main board, was stoked that the ET 74 handled fully maxed 4.7 conditions just as well as his old 70 and then gave more float when the wind dropped.
Blair was a bit late, but managed to push his Jp twin thru some nice carves before giving it and his shoulder a closer look at some reef and rocks.
So far the verdict is all good on the twin fin boards.
There were also some serious gouges from a couple of single fin riders - the guy on an evo and s-1 was making impossibly late cutbacks, ripping the throat out of the wave in huge style. Very impressive watching that and his super stalled backloops.
A good weekend was had by all. - one day I'll learn how to sail properly!
Interesting reviews,
just saw a twin fin board from F2 with cool graphics from Windsurfing channel tv,. but beware its in french.
anyway the more the better for comparison i say
A little bored so I thought I line up the 3 twins we had in store. Quite a lot of difference between brands when you have a bit of a look.
Sam.
Interesting that the mag found the JP fins too large and only worked fitted at the front of the boxes. I found the same thing so I am goung to order some 160's and try it again.
Never did like the stock fins out of the cobra factory. (that includes Starboard, JP & Naish)
Yer i'm going try some MFC 165's on the Evil 80, Starboard fins seam way too stiff, anyone played with fin position on the Evil yet?
What's the rule with fin position to foot strap position on twinnie's?
I know on a single you run the leading edge of the fin in the middle of the strap, but the twinnies seam to be straight under the strap.
So JP are producing the most freeride oriented twin.
Some how after watching Kauli rip it up I have a sense of mild confusion ( though this is probably just old age and the alzheimer's medcation kicking in).

"Our 80kg Clones were struggling to exert enough force to turn the board. And it is force that it needs – if you are really aggressive off your back foot, you can get the board to turn nicely, but it isn’t something that could be maintained turn after turn."
Pingu,
You failed to include the whole artical which later said that this issue was resolved by fitting smaller fins. JP also responed that the 84 litre was targeted to heavier sailors.
