So ... I am still with the original 1050HA + s270 setup. I am pretty happy and still impressed by the amazing pump n glide. Also the turning ability. The 1050 has a great low end too but it's limited to 10kts for me.
I want to get a better low end (8-10kts). Which route is best?
-1450HA (2023)?
-SF1080 or SF1230?
For full context: I am 75kg, 80L board, biggest wing a Nova V3 6.0. I ride on mostly flat lakes, which gets bumps in hi winds.
I am leaning towards the 1450HA since it works with S270 too and maybe I can use it with a future dw board?
What do you more experienced Sonar riders think? Thanks!
Edit: with its 120cm span.. is the 1450HA a similar wing like e.g Gong Sirus L/XL?
For low end the SF1230 is the best choice and it wil be much more fun and better turning!

Generic Foiling podcast with Uli Sommerlatt .. who designed the North Sonar. Pretty insightful conversation. Also talks about the fwing to fuse connection.
I think North Sonar owners are in good hands
SF 680 AR 9.2 and SF 830 AR 9.0 that is wonderful!!!!!
And the MA 850 AR 7.2 is also good news.
Lets hope they become available soon
Any opinion about low wind performance of SF 1080 vs MA1350
Hi, currently I have MA 1200 and MA 1350. I am 70kg intermediate.
I want to try SF foils for learning better pumping and small waves in the Mediterranean Sea (Greece)
I am curious if SF1080 can replace my MA 1350 for low wind performance. I think i don't need SF 1230 for my weight. Low wind for me is 8kts to 10kts with 5.5 wing and standard board, north seek. I am not going to this 7plus m wings with downwind boards.
And looking forward to new MA 850 :)
Ivan,.
First real Session with HA850 S210.
5m Wing , gusty winds. Me 93lg rider.
It needs more wind than MA1050, no wonder...
Mast min 1cm more forward.
On foil, fast, fast. Good glide, good in maneuvers.
until now haapy.
First real Session with HA850 S210.

What is your feelings about minimum wind speed and wing? I'm currently on ma12050 I have 8m and probably will add 5.5 mode pro later on

I've been using the SF1080 exclusively lately for low wind. Use the 930SF and HA's for higher wind. It really is so easy to get up on and the stall speed is very low. It's good up to waist to rib high waves for my 75 kgs and it's carving is spot on. Pumps great too. We have a wind meter close to one of our spots and I'd say w a 6M I'm up around 13-14 mph pretty easy. I know the 1230SF would match it but the 1080 would be close but w more speed and pump. Hope that helps.

I can't tell jet. Yesterday the wind picked up really, I guess 15-25 knt , so there was really enough for the 5m wing and HA850.
To compare, I guess, I can get on foil on my MA1350 and 7m wing in 8-14 knt condition, when I get a good gust.
Don't know, if this helps...
So, did anyone try the new MA850v2 already?
I really like their MA series. I use the 1200+S270 as my allround setup and the MA1050+S210 when the wind picks up. I mainly surf in messy wind waves and choppy waters.
Noob question but I have the alu Sonar system on a 97l Seek. Looking at smaller boards from other manufacturers (leaning towards an amundson rocket fish) but not sure how their mounting system works with the 'industry standard' tracks. The blurb for the north mast adapter says "fits all boards with Industry Standard 165x90mm mounting pattern" but the dropbox system on their boards has 4 notches for the inserts while the industry standard rails only have two. Are they compatible or am I missing something?
Yes, if a standard box with 2 notches, they are compatable but a bit of a hassle fiddling with the t-nuts each time you mount the foil. Trick is to buy locking t-nuts and leave them locked in the board when you have tuned them in the right place for your foil. You can get GrabNutz locally or "hydrofoil mounting T Nuts" on ebay if you are happy to wait a few weeks. If ebay, you need to to get the M6 ones with two holes - they have M8 holes for your foil mount and the other holes are M6. You need M6 SS "coarse thread" grub screws for locking them. In my case, I needed some 16mm M6 grub screws because there was a bigger gap to the base of the box in the front bolts.

Ah gotcha, that makes sense now! Cheers
Had a first go today with the S208 (instead S270) paired with the HA1050 .. and I just had to post this on my IG!
I was expecting a harder step in terms of control going from the s270 to s208. Instead it just invited me to push harder, turn harder. Immediately 5kph faster.

I really like their MA series. I use the 1200+S270 as my allround setup and the MA1050+S210 when the wind picks up. I mainly surf in messy wind waves and choppy waters.
Tried a proto in Hood River.
Context - 78 kg, 43 L board.
My daily driver is the HA850/178/60/85 from 12-40+ knts, I'll rarely take the HA650 out as unless it's double overhead, the 850 keeps up with the speed of swells. I will also ride the SF930/215/60/85 if the swell is too slow for the HA850.
I tried the MA850v2 with the 178.
Not as fast as the HA, but close, and much much faster than then SF
Smaller radius turns than both HA and SF, no locked in feeling. You can start a turn, break out of the arc at any time and turn the opposite direction. Easy-peasy
Pumps much more efficiently than the SF, similar to the HA.
Great glide, low stall speed.
I'd trade my HA850 for the MA850v2 any day.
Magic foil.

Do you think we can expect more sizes of the MA V2in between 850-1850?

No idea if other sizes in between will be released, but the 850 is all you need ;)

@tangur,
Which stab with MA850 ? Now I ride MA1200 with s270. SF1080 with S215 is on the way.
Do I need S210 or S215 will be ok ? S178 is too small for my level.
ikr,.
I ride both the s270 and the s210 for my MA1050. Both work well, but off course the 210 feels snappier and more responsive and goes faster. It depends on the conditions, if the wind picks up I prefer the 210.
Had a dream North released their pump and glide foils.. Outline and planform like the HA1250 and 1450 but with the camber of the SF's. Waiting....

Ah no man! the last thing I needed to hear was another magic foil from North :-) Any idea when the SF680 will be out? I'm gonna stall on a wing upgrade until I hear reviews on that bad boy.

I agree 100% with this post. I'm over 90 kilos. Can ride the 1080 with a 7mt in marginal 12 knots... But have also recently had a blast on it in waist high Atlantic waves mega powered on the 4.2mt mode in 22 knots no problem.. Never over foils.. Of course it's a bit draggy at that point.. I normally switch to the 930 as soon as it's 16 knots constant... But they both pump and glide soooo well for being such carvy foils... So well behaved dropping into fairly vertical and powerful sections, jibing through bumpy Whitewater, wrapped up in seaweed at full speed.. Almost NEVER ventilate and crash with these foils... (always with the 215 tail.. Sometimes shimmed 1/2 degree but mostly stock)
Can't wait to get my hands on the 840??
