While everyone else had to pump their arses off to get on foil.. Zane was lucky enough to get a lift out to the wind line..
Thx DJ,cool to see the gear.
Maybe you can get more pics of the AFS board?.
Looks like they made a frestyle or race board with influences from their DW Blackbird model?.
Tried but didn't sorry.. because they were all out on the water.. I'll keep trying but it's getting late on the last day so I don't like my chances.. I do have another pic from the other day..
A couple of pics of the action on the water..
The second pic shows the agonising pump leg to the finish line..
Meanwhile just around the corner on the ocean side there was a nice bit of SUP racing action..
This place must be heaven
thanks for the pics davidjohn, its good to see what the top riders are using.
Interesting to hear the thoughts on the mast plate shim on the smik board and armstrong mast? I was thinking of getting that board. The new armstrong masts already has a rake back so is the mast base shim adding more angle back?
Thanks.. I asked Arnie about this and he said most of the races rake their mast back slightly giving the board a slight nose up look but he said it helps with going up-wind.. He said kite-foil racers do the same thing.. He also said that Armstrong don't sell these angled mast plate shims but they will be soon.. I think most shims out there have been 3D printed.. Some boards also have tail rocker that creates a need for these shims..
Loving the pics DJ. Gotta say I'm not a fan of the pump leg in the racing, looks slow and awkward compared to flat out wing racing. Wonder how the competitors feel about it.

I don't think anyone is a fan of it..
Maybe in the surf it would work..
Thx DJ!
It is more of a standard lunchtray, i thought they had tried a mini DW shape.
Thanks for the pics! Is that titouan's setup? Looks like H800 with long fuse and chopped v180 tail (?)
The long fuses are prob for the pump leg so they can use small front wings but still be able to pump ?
Yeah pump is probably easier as the extreme angles of attack leading to stall are prevented, but also for speed, long fuse makes the setup much more pitch stable so you can push it comfortably much faster
