And the moral of the story.......

Kitesurfing can make you look like a twat!

but surfing can break your neck!

Did anyone notice that they changed the advertisment for the episode????

A few days ago the voice over was something like "Its the latest craze to hit Bondi Beach"

Last night before the show started the ad was totally different, saying something about Kitesurfing. Guess they must have been told off as the first line would probably encourage more people to go kiting on Bondi Beach.....

Well it certainly wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, I dont think KS has been damaged in anyway. the three possible spinal injuries might have brought this into perspective. Definately pretty embarressing for Grant.
It shouldnt have taken a lifeguard to tell him it was unsafe to kite because there were lots of people swimming , so I still feel he got what he deserved.
Hopefully we can all learn from this.

Yep that footage sucked big time. I were so dissapointed. I saw more on the shorts than they aired on the show.

Plus I've seen worse at home here with a noob and a seawall, he got scraped ontop of the seawall but was ok. just bruising and scratches but he wasnt familiar with his quick release (the noob).

Did you see his kite get raped on those poles! I'd hate to see the repair bill. Maybe he can do a warranty dodge and say he just dumped the kite into the water.

Oh well, at least this thread was the best value i've read for a while!

Bondi rescue???? What a crock of ****e!!!!

3x collars and 3x ambulance for blokes with a stiff neck. Where did these budgy smuggling ****ers get their paramedic training? Cambodia?? Who bankrolls these clowns?? I hope not my tax dollars.
Can't believe I wasted my time tuning into that drivel....
Booo... I want my money back.

Channel ten kept if fairly low key I thought. Certainly could have really bagged they guy but even mentioned how the safety jammed.

Channel 10 DID NOT keep this "low key" !!!!

The producers & directors of the "Bondi Rescue" program kept it "low key". They did a pretty good job of giving a realistic show (albeit a short show) of what was presented to them. Considering what (facts???) have been discussed here on Seabreeze it seemed to marry up with the story.

Channel 10 on the other hand seemed to BEAT this up worse than a Barry Hall football match !!

It was the Channel 10 Promo ads that got to me;
"The adventure sport breaking all the rules" was the classic last night.

Channel 10 ...."Beating its meat, like it owes it money" ...as usual.......should not have been surprised

something off topic, but: when riding waves like this, or even much smaller - how much wind acceleration do you run into with the wind going up and over the wave, does it catch people out?

When the Bondi-dude was getting death-dragged across the beach by the psycho kite....
as I was watching that on TV, I was involuntarily yelling out;
"Jump on him, jump on him" !
Because that's what you should do if you ever see this stuff happening in front of you.
You need to think fast....
and you need to sprint run, not jog.
And when you catch up to him, you jump on him.
lol.
That's what those clubbies should have done.
(The show's called Bondi Rescue, isn't it ) ?

I'm guessing the kite was maybe a 10m and the wind speed maybe 18 knots, fairly onshore.
If the wind had been say 25 knots, the outcome may have been a lot worse.

I thought the problems were obvious:

- Not enough downhaul/outhaul. Had it bagged waaaay out.
- Boom was set ridiculously high.
- Harness lines set ridiculously long.

hmm, could be right panda.

or it could have been he had an palm down grip on his bar.

i think the dude was lucky, you can see just as he was about to get lofted again after the wall incident the kite suddenly colapsed. if it had of powered on he was a gonna.

Yay, this thread can finally die.

Thank you all for posting vids of other stuff throughout this thread. You kept my sanity amidst all the *&^%

As for kiting at Bondi etc. Um.. Enough said I think. Lets keep our beaches open by doing the right thing.

Good he wasnt hurt though.

Yeh what happened in the end?

Good or Bad?

In Gero there's a lot of wind and waves,
we can park our cars on the beach for free,
but we dont have channel 10

Grant I think its time after seven years of kiting to loose the leg rope.

Pornstar dont rub it in after my kiting holiday an Gero I cant get motivated on the east coast anymore.

As for the accident I think the punters on seabreeze hyped it more than channel 10 did.

Great publicity for Cabrinha kites.

Bring back the kiting at Brighton they were the good old days , no tv cameras plenty of room for everyone and those big airs we all loved boosting behind the pool fence.
