Down to my local fire shed for a working bee at 7.00am this morning. We put up 3 roller doors and had a good yarn.
.
Got back home and spent the afternoon welding up the new jet. (As always it takes 3 times longer, to get everything aligned properly before welding it fully).

I went to a mate's workshop on Friday and used his sheet metal “slip rollers” to roll up the bigger truncated cones. It still took me 1 1/2 hours to roll the intake, combustion chamber and tail pipe out of 1.6mm sheet.
It was a "Chook" powered machine.
The hire cost , was a relaxing counter lunch at the local pub. Had to replenish the fluid levels too. Thanks a heap Phil.

The jet is all tapers and curves, so assembling it, has kept me on my toes.

I still have to,
Spin up a sparkplug mounting bush on the lathe and weld it onto the combustion chamber.
Sort out a fuel supply system (LPG) and injector nozzle.
Work out how to build up some tabs to actually mount it.

All good fun................
Stay tuned.

Sounds GOOD! Chook,
While you're at it you might as well add a dump tube for raw Oxygen too. ' don't suppose that Nitro would help??[}:)]

Bit more done today.

Machined up the mounting for the sparkplug on the lathe and started on the radial LPG inductor.
It will be adjustable to get it to the best position inside the intake cone and near to the transition cone into the combustion chamber.
(Intake is at the bottom.)

I've read that they can be fussy where the fuel is delivered.

I'm still smiling, so you can guess from that, it wasn't my wife that took this shot. [}:)]

You are all sworn to secretiveness!!!!

Now back to the shed.

weld the whole lot on top of a LLM chassis, gas bottle wired onto the mast step, diesel tank on one side of pilot, electrical doodads on the other

With legal stuff being such a hassle nowdays, we better look after the pilot safety requirements.

.
.
I suppose several layers of fibro for a seat, and a "deadman" switch for the ignition should keep the lake lefroy OH&S from having a hissy fit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

edit- instead of welding to the chassis, weld brackets to the "U" bend that match the bolts for securing the rear axle extensions to the chassis.

supporting strut running from the exhaust/inlet up to the rear of the headrest.
(based on a plywood seat- so you can screw fibro under it!)

Ha ha, no need Ron.
The last jet test run shook them off. I ran it outside the shed, with the exhaust facing away and it shook all the pressure pack paint cans, jars of screws and a lot of tools off the wall and shelves. You have to experience it to believe it.
While standing around it while it's running and you open your mouth, the noise rattles your lungs enough to blow air out your nose.

Thanks for the compliments anyway fellas.

Ahhh... not enough hours in each day.

I've spent some more time on the fuel system.
The brass radial fuel injector (on the short dummy 10mm copper tube) took some time to make. 12 x 1.5mm holes spraying forward at 15 degrees, for a full fan pattern.
Plug mounting tapped for the plug and the gas taps sorted to regulate the noise.

Idle hands DO make the devil's workshop it seems.

Had the best wind for the year so far here yesterday. Took Diablo (Cisco's Horse), a standard LLF Mini out to the touch football fields opposite the airport here for a hoot.

Reckon I had her up to 50 kmh on the grass with a couple of wild gybes, one of which ended with me rolling backwards at about 20 kmh. Near crapped myself laughing.

Darling wife took a couple of short vids of me. If I knew how to upload them they would be here.

Do I have to upload to another site first (eg You Tube) then link or can I upload direct to this site???

Can anybody give me advice on this??

Yeah! Cisco.. Yuz Gottsta upload through You Tube and then post the address to seabreeze.. Easy enough when you know how.. Took me a couple of goes to get the hang..

Go to You Tube www.youtube.com/ You have to create an account then Click Upload (Top of the Page) From there (If I remember correctly) You do similar to uploading to Seabreeze..

Give it a try.. No one will kill you if you get it wrong, you just try again until you get it right..

Awesome cisco, should be some good footage.

One more sleep and I'm off to Lake Lefroy.

Will meet up with the "Kalgoorlie bunch" for 4 days of yachting on the glass surface.
The lake report is, just a little water right over by St Ives. PERFECT!!!![}:)]

Yachts to fine tune, kites to sort out and maybe a prawn or two on the barby.
Might even have to suffer a cold bevarage or two each evening, to keep the cold out.

There should be more long weekends eh

Well I got the vids up on the Choobe and even learnt how to put some music with them.

The camera is only a 3 m/pix Ricoh about 5 years old on a low res setting but I think you will get the idea.

Another way of dealing with no wind. Go on the Choobe.

The Yanks have made an art form out of this and their yachts are just superb.

I really like the green one with the sliding canopy.

I was "hurry up and waiting" at the gate to FMG-Cloudbreak yesterday morning, tried to call Chook to see whats happening at Lefroy.
Couldnt get through.
Got a missed call message on the way home so called from MT Magnet at 9.30pmish,
Chook answered with lots of wind noise, fumbling and a bit of colourful language.
Turns out that Lefroy is perfect, wind is great, and all the crew were out night sailing and having a "phat time".

I'm not jealous (much)

hope the mug drops his phone.......

Really too cold today (for me anyway it's 12 degrees C.)

With the "War Lord" overseas, I've been able to do some fuel flow testing on my small 12 pound thrust valveless pulse jet. Just to get more of a handle on the starting and running of it.

Today's conditions are probably the worst case situation, with the LPG cylinder being so cool.
I found that my fittings that connect to the flex line (both ends) are too restrictive with only a 3mm hole through the brass, as in the cold conditions, I couldn't get to full throttle.
Even with the cylinder valve fully on. I'm guessing it was only at 80% power.

It was also very reluctant to restart when hot as well. I reckon there was some icing problems in the brass fittings. If I left it for 15 mins it would instantly restart.
By the time I had the fittings undone, it had thawed, but the moisture was still visible.
I drilled them out and it made a huge difference. Spark on, gas on and a 120 psi sniff of air from my air lance and it was away each time.
After a few runs it warmed up the shed nicely, but it was a bit hard on the eyes with the fumes.

You will be pleased to know “Landyacht” that it shook some of my ring spanners off their nails. [}:)]

I got the engine mountings cut out and drilled for the bigger “Lockwood”.
I just have to weld them up now.
The local hydraulic shop is getting me some 10mm steel tube for its fuel system. It's been delayed by end of financial year stocktakes in Perth.
Still much to do.

Chook,
Why don't you use Raw Dump. You have to be careful but it works fine on my Biscuit Tim Furnace and it will take down a Kilo of Bronze quickly.

That's Jim's brudder Tim hanging around the Biscuit Tin all the time only to find out Cisco already ate all the Scotch Fingers.
