You can hear the results of the bottle icing up at the end. The valves have been turned off and the gas is melting and vaporizing still.
So the old adage is true? "Boys will play".
Chook , She's a real "Bottler!"
Love yer thinking lad.
Ron
PS; Has anyone thought as to whether this is a RAM Jet or Pulse Jet?? More RAM I would guess.
Chook,
Just looking and thinking (Lots a Smoke and Grindin' Happenin') Do you think 2 smaller bottles side by side and linked together via individual controls would improve things a bit, one dumping the other being heated by the Jet?? You'd get a longer burn anyway.
Ron
just looking at the vid again Chook, and notice that the bottomtube has a BBQ blue flame. on the heat scale this would be a good welding flame but cold compared to the orange / white. A jet with after burners is in the o/w range. There seems to be too much heat build up in the pipe, more or less overheating.. PS i am no expert just an interested observor. i know you have not finished tinkering yet and amabout to lok up the lockwood hillier story...great stuff of the west!
Chook, googgled Mr hillier, learnt a thing or too, as you doooo. sellected a few interesting snaps on images, hope all enjoy
Could it be heard 120km away? Hmm...
I once DJ'd at an outdoor rave near Goulburn, friends of the land owner called up to tell him they could hear the music clearly 50km away in a straight line with 40km of eucalypt forest in between. The sound system was 60,000 watts with an SPL of about 126 DB at 1m.
I will guarantee that the pulse jet generated a grate deal more that 125 DB my guess would be a tad over 210 DB and with only 27 km of light scrub separating Lake Lefroy and Cowan I reckon its definitely plausible.
Chook how about next test you get one of your students to hold a noise meter at a safe distance?
wevw had a report of it being heard clearly at st ives And the echo after it shut off.
the evening was soooo still so anything is possible.
It was fascinating to hear a sound through your chest and jaw despite the earplugs.
I christened the machine "feel the noise"
Sorry Paul, you have to be wrong on that. From the Total of the descriptions and footage so far, it has to be "Hell on Wheels" (Flashing Lights, Searing Flames, The Thunderous Roar of the Gods) the only thing that stops it from being Called the "DRAGON" is the Fire is coming from the wrong END!! [}:)][}:)]
Ron
I have been wanting to put a Pulse Jet on one of my RC planes, I have seen it done and I'm addicted, just gotta have the skills to do it.
