How many crew to sail this?
I sailed on her sister Superstar a little bit when I was a kid. It's got one hell of a big rig but if all went well, a good sailor could obviously handle it singlehanded under sail. As Shaggy says, docking could be an issue.
Looks like lotsa boat in good nick for the bucks. Looking at the design, construction and date I wonder if she is one of the famous Williwaws, or perhaps she is actually a 1976 boat and is Dennis Connor's "Hi Roler"? I think there were only about four of this design built - Hi Roler, Superstar, Williwaw (III?) and Williwaw (IV?) and that the second Williwaw may not have been alloy.
They don't get much more interesting than this:https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/port-macquarie/sail-boats/police-car-yacht/1225894762?edited=true
What could you do?
$500k+ to get back into full race trim and competitive? Plus experienced crew to drive her.
$200k+ to make her a reasonable club racer?
$100k+ to make her a basic cruiser.
A big, expensive hole in the water whichever way you look at it... It's a shame, but that's reality.
It's funny people think they can increase the sail area on Swanson believing it will preform better, when Ron Swanson was a mathematician ?
The Swanson 28 isn't a motorsailer never was. It was a request from a guy who approached Swansons and wanted a small compact, roomy cruising yacht similar design to the 42 and that is what it is. The idea they are slow is laughable? sail them like any full keel yacht and they sail well. No, they won't point as high as a fin keel, but they weren't designed too.

what is the big deal with running backstays on a cruising yacht?
My Swanson 38 has them and its never been a problem.
