I find this interesting, and looks like very good value for fun shorthanded sailing.

On my saved list. I keep a couple of trailer sailers on the list from WA just in case I have to drive over and may as well bring something back!

It probably lasted all day! A few days ago there was a Santana 22 on Gumtree for $100! That lasted one day as well.

A lot of boat for the money. Not sure whether these have cast iron keels or not.

wow great value lead keel but you need to check the grid that it bolts to great boats but lots of weather helm

Any thoughts on this;

Seems like a lot of boat for the money and looks fast! I am not scared of wood. I grew up in a family with multiple carvel planked boats with Gardner engines.

looks like a fun fast boat , and good price , needs a folding or feathering prop to be faster !

Looks very neat. Is it a lead or cast iron keel? Do the keel bolt nuts and top of keel bolts look ok? Keel floor timbers ok? Was the mast refurbished in 2012 when the standing rigging was renewed? Seems like a no1 or n02 genoa is in the photos but not listed in the inventory? May not need these - the no3 might be enough? One of the photos shows "gaps" in the joints between the inner diagonal timber layers - is this an issue or just inherent timber contraction with age? Was the hull exterior itself dynel and epoxy resin sheathed or just the deck as stated? With your experience assume you can ask and assess, also using a good wooden boat surveyor. Would be an ideal boat to put a prodder bowsprit on to fly an asymm kite off. Can easily do this with the symm spinnaker pole secured to the foredeck and sticking out 1-5-2m or so.

Some interesting comments on John Spencer here;

She did a fair bit of Bass Strait racing from Melbourne in her day. Yes, she definitely needs a folding or feathering prop - Spencers need efficient props even more than most boats. I've still got my little Serendipity so I'm biased when it comes to Spencers!

2bish,
Looks like you've spotted the holy grail there, gotta love 1.2m draft & well sized... wonder if they'd take a trade in on a lightly used & abused 40 year old Carter33.

I agree. Probably counting on that one special person out there that knows what a Rival 34 is. If they are going to put just one photo up why not show the bow and include the headsail furler. Reading the ad it sounds like one family member is selling the boat on behalf of the elderly gentleman.
