The upkeep on a steel yacht is just too intense i.e. daily.

Utter crap!!!

Mate, if the boat is right to start with, i.e. the protective coating (paint) has been done correctly and you attend to any damage to that coating when it happens, yeah sure, the boat could last 100 years, e.g. the James Craig has been restored and is doing the job these days.

However if a steel yacht is let go and not correctly maintained, you may never get ahead of it.

How long do you believe the paint system on a steel vessel is good for? I reckon 10 to 15 years about pulls it up.

So you have a steel yacht that is the apple of your eye. I did not say that steel yachts are no good. It is just another boat building material.

There is no need to get defensive or offensive about it. There are more tonnes of steel floating around the world I am sure than any other material except maybe plastic.

So from my experience in the Navy working on steel ships and from my experience of having owned a steel yacht I will rephrase my above comment to this:- I am not going to spend the time and effort required to maintain a steel yacht in pristine condition.

Are you happy now Lazzz??

Wonder what the scope of "needs some work" is............

How easy would it be to add some decent photos? Certainly costs the same to have 10 photos as 3 almost the same. I'll go out on a limb and say it's probably a round bilge steel Adams.
Nice looking mainsail and the backstay HF aerial indicates it was someones pride and joy at one time. Might be worth a phone call for more details. Never know these days. I was onboard Chutzpah the other day and wished the hell I had bought her when she sold for silly money!

Agreed, pretty hard to tell anything from effectively the one, undated low quality photo they put up.

Good starter boat and mooring have just had a price drop.

Yse8 diesel that looks like it could do with a clean up. Looking for a water front accomadation on the mid coast this might do fine.

Probably because the reason they are selling is they either have lost interest, or are unable to get to the boat conveniently.
Enter Jonathan, (Regatta et al), who buys and cleans them up before selling. A great neglected boat rescue service IMHO.

Lately there seem to be a lot of deceased estate stuff or the owner is incapacitated. Family just wants the boat gone.

Yes I understand there are often very good reasons for the state of a vessel in photos.

However I was astounded how many times when I was a surveyor conducting a condition and valuation inspection for insurance I had to take internal photos of vessels that were a mess. Plenty of time for the Owner to clean things up. Commercial vessels were often the worst with engine rooms to match.

This is only interesting because it show what some people are prepared to go on the water with. Not for any money would I buy something like this.

That being said I have to acknowledge that it is quite well put together.

Lots of boats said to be based on Slocumb's Spray. Don't know why they bother as Spray was not a wonderful design-it is what he could get for free. This one only vaguely resembles Spray.

Square windows....I was always told, no square corners on boats....they are points of infinite stress. I believe that law
lead to the demise of the Comet airliner...same thing...square windows.

Heading over the Cygnet today to check out a boat where the owner has passed and the boat broke its mooring and it is now on one of my moorings.
See if I can help them out.
If it is the boat I think it is a good one.

There's a lot to like about that one, wondering what the draft is.

See here some of the colourful history. Certainly a big shot in the late 70's early-mid 80s.

No. Sistership. She was for sale same time I bought Envy II but not in survey and about the same price i.e. $75k.

I believe a guy at Airlie Beach bought Envy II (renamed by the bloke who bought her from me to Lady Katherine after his daughter) for $35k.

There was an alloy 40 ft Peterson in S.A. called Sunburst that sold for $25k.

That series of Peterson IOR 2 tonners are brilliant yachts.

Nearly bought that boat several years ago, wish I had,,,, I looked over it, then went back for another.
Have kept an eye out for it since. If it had come up again for sale 3 years ago for that price I would have put it on a cradle in my yard.

This older version of the compass 28 seems has a good engine. A compass 28 sold for $8k last week which I missed out on having a look at.

That's a Northerner, has a timber fit-out. Compass 28 has fibreglass furniture. That replacement engine would not have been cheap!

I think she was a custom or modified Swanson 36, not the standard glass one. She did the 1973 Hobart.
