It's been like Christmas for this cash-poor sailor over the last week with gifts down the chimney from HG and Cisco. THANKS GUYS!!!

With a bit of TLC and a few new parts I may be able to upgrade my 30-year old depth sounder to a 20(?) year old one, get my old paddle wheel log going again, and have similar-era wind velocity and apparent wind for the first time (direction accuracy will depend on how well the ST60 rotovecta calculates that). Woohoo - late 80's / 90's here we come! Suck it up, Shaggy.

I still cannot for the life of me work out how a wind speed kit can sell for $2K.

Very cool HG, how thick is it? Did you do the ply build up?

Its around 25 to 30 mm shaggy ill epoxy it so it becomes part of the deck once i get my angles right ill plate under the deck ith epoxy saturated marine ply and also epoxy that to under the deck mount my winch to squeeze it up
Once the top portion is finished

wired up my Bukh Dv24 added some water and what ever diesel it had in the filter and powered her up seems to run well I might buy a liter of diesel and add a couple of fuel lines and run her for a few minutes tomorrow

That has to be a big win for you HG. Well done.

Yanmar 2 QM 15s seem to be a bit thin on the ground. There are still a heap of them still thumping away in many of the smaller yachts like Compasses. Mine is still going strong (touch Wood) but if it ever sounds like it needs replacing I think I will bite the bullet and spend the money on a newer modern 3 cylinder diesel.

Diecon Engineering have imported used Kubotas that they marinise and sell for a reasonable price.

Wanderer66 has a Yanmar 3GM 30H (heat exchanger) in his Carter 33 which I have to say is a really smooth runner.

Got Cisco's gift going yesterday. New coax plug and sand papered the inside of the female coax plug and the unit found the sounder. Not sure why it's reading 1.3 inside my water jug - will need to test further.

Also got HG's gift going during the week - just waiting on replacement wind cups.

Much sincere gratitude, guys.

Great to see you have a result with the Clipper sounder DrRog. The NASA Marine web site should have the info you need to get it fully sorted. It may have a keel depth offset put into it.

More of the same....worked all weekend on the port side stripping paint now finished so sanding has begun....... To break the monotony i also took off the hatch to use as a pattern for the new one and lifted more fiberglass from the deck. I have the next two weeks full time on the boat so hope to get all done thats needed to get back on the mooring. We'll see.....
this one's not a pretty picture but that's how the pick of the deck i posted before looked before cleaning and sanding so it should come up ok.

I know exactly how that goes Guitz
Ive found boat means more than B.O.A.T Cisco formula is unfinished
Maybe it should end in double T
T= Thousand and the other T= Time

Thanks HG, I've dug out all the remaining balsa, so now I'm planning to laminate a composite "coosa" panel to the undersise of the foredeck. this should end up being stronger than the original balsa and at least I know it wont rot.

The worst thing about this job was the dust, i sealed off the area but still it took a couple of hours to clean up the dust from cutting with the angle grinder, not looking forward to doing the side decks!

Hi guys and gals,
Pedestals are in! This makes it harder for singlehanding, as the cockpit is about 3mtrs long to the winches, and of course with the wheels you are locked in position a bit . With the tiller, you sit a lot further forward, so you can reach the winches, ie: better for singlehanding. I know I can use the autohelm to trim and tack, so it is not all doom and gloom, but it was one of those choices that could go either way, whether or not it is a good thing, time will tell.

Shaggy, for that style of yacht with such a wide cockpit I think you have made the right choice. With a good auto pilot I think you will be able to get around it all if on your own.

An auto pilot with a "deadman button" that if not registered at set intervals is programmed to round the yacht up or just put and keep the helm hard over to one side is a good idea for single handing.

I don't know if such a unit is available for yachts but many fishing vessels have that type of auto pilot.

Hi Cisco,
Yes, the wireless remote control fob for the auto helm does a similar thing to what you describe. If I go over and the fob moves more than 20 odd feet away (edit: I need to check the distance) from the base station, it will put the boat into irons. You can get strap on crew ones as well (no control) but for now I've only ordered two remote control fobs. The plan is to add more when needed .
Only three weeks to go before we float her for the first time, can't wait!

Ive been doing the dust thingy for 18 months ,Andy every time you do some thing there a lot of time cleaning after maybe a day each time .

I spent the afternoon shaping this anchor winch deck plate ready for epoxy tomorrow shaped it to the deck and also in line with the anchor chain once it goes off I can drill through the deck and mount the winch . But I still want to fit a marine ply support under the deck for added strength should also be sorted by next weekend.
Looking aft this afternoon

At least it will be easy to walk forward in-between the wheels Shaggy, not like the s and s 34 where you have to climb over the cockpit seat to go forward.

I am embarressed to ask HG and show my ignorance, but is the second hole for the chain/rode? If so, do you have to flare it out to make it run smooth?

Yes Shaggy and it will happen after its epoxied in and the marine ply also epoxied in place under the deck Ill flare it out.
By the time I finished today that anchor winch plate is completely different on the under side . It will give the anchor chain a straight run from the bow roller to the anchor winch .
Except for the last top laminate at the rear its all gone so the winch chain has a straight pull from the bow mounted anchor roller. and takes into account the roll of the deck.
As you can see there is a height problem . I didn't want to drill or disturb the bow spit so I'm fitting a vertical directly behind and to one side slightly .
