Wouldn't mind a go of a GT one day. Stoked you are liking them.
If I towed more the 12.5 FTS would be amazing. I'll just have to make do with the 12.5 and the pedestal.
Can someone explain to me first the difference between what an assembled pedestal and a flip tip tail are? Lol.
I'll explain my comments.
I have the pedestals and a 12.5 so I'll use these. I would absolutely love a 12.5 FTS but I have to draw the line somewhere. $$
Regarding the difference between the tails here goes;
FT have a totally different foil shape. Much faster and looser. Not as much lift during turns but the additional speed cancels this out I find. The S version is also shorter than the 6.5inch ped by about 50mm. The fact that they are plug and play or set and forget it also great as they work great on every version of GF There is absolutely nothing wrong with the pedestals and old tails. The 14.5 is great, bit slow. The 12.5 is awesome but small.
To say I'm a bit excited is an understatement.
Given the amazing performance of the 1000 this little guy at 650 should be absolutely incredible. Never thought a 650 wing could be used under a wing but here's hoping!
I've had two sessions on my RS1000 and loving it, coming from an armie HS1250. The RS is smooth and has plenty of low end lift and glide for a wing of only 1000cm2. I'm 85kg and think this will be my primary winging foil for all wind above 15knots. Peak speed so far is 37.5km/h, I know it will go faster. Pitch stability is awesome and no sudden drop when the wing tips come out in turns. Still undecided whether to get a bigger RS wing or GT.
Have we decided which is "THE" RS wing to get (in my case 77kg, moderate wind wing and small to heavy wind chop)
Everybody on this thread is frothing about the RS 1000, but the RS 1150 is the most ordered size. There's a couple of video reviews that push the RS 1150.
Given that the worst thing in wingdinging is being undergunned I'm a bit fearful of going too small.
The local heroes are on Axis wings of similar dimensions to the RS 1150 (ART 999 and HPS 880)
Hi Gorgo,
Normally I would err on the side of size. However the 1000 really does feel bigger than it is. Bottom end is great, slow speed characteristics are awesome and then you have all the advantages of a small wing.
Unless you are chasing the 6-12kt days winging I feel the 1000 will suit as you have access to power.
1150 would be awesome too but I can't vouch for it personally yet.
Rich.
I had the same dilemma. There are no RS 1150 wings in west Oz that I know of (hint hint Dylan, send some this way when they arrive). I'm happy with the RS1000. I think for wave winging this will be the one. For downwind flagging out and flat water the RS1150 might be a good all rounder. All speculation until I actually ride a bigger RS version. The bottom end of the RS1000 is better than the Armie HS1250 if that helps. I haven't had the RS1000 out in light winds as it's been so bloody windy in Perth for the last month.
I now own an RS1000 and have prove foiled it 4 times and wing foiled it once in very gusty conditions on a lake just to try it out.
I have prone surfed the RS1150 once in fun very small gutless waves (have it on order). See Zane Westwood instagram if you wish to see what is possible for the best riders.
I am 65kgs 180cm and will have prone foiled for 4 years this Christmas and am 55 years old.
I was told the RS1000 doesn't pump as good as the NL160 but for my weight i am now sure i can pump the RS1000 better (prone surf). 3 for 1's very regular 2 for 1's standard. The RS1150 pumps much better again as you would expect and still turned ridiculously amazing for its wing span. Much better than the NL160 and around the same wingspan.
Based on my weight, limited experience with the RS and some common sense i think for winging waves i won't ever use the 1150 unless very light wind and swell and still unlikely. For wing foiling downwind (flag out) then i am looking forward to the 1150 for less than the best winds. If i am in a lake or flat water where winds are very gusty i will use the 1150 just for the start and the glide between gusts.
For prone foiling the RS1000 will be my daily ride but it is hard to imagine the heavier riders (85kg +) wont think the 1150 is their best daily option. I will still prone the 1150 when the pump is much more important than the surfing. I say this because the 1150 just turned so good in small waves (waist high) and the lift on these RS foils is just so subtle, making pitch stability thoughtless.
For those only buying one size RS foil for prone or SUP this will be a tough call. I remember then the Kijura 980 came out and all those heavier guys said this is all you need but not a few months later they were all riding the 1210 daily. Again common sense and the sizes line up almost exactly with the RS series in wingspan and chord. So maybe under 80kgs will love the 1000 and those over 80 with the waves and ability may still ride the 1000. Those over 85 looking for pure enjoyment may find the 1150 will leave the biggest of smiles in all but overhead wave. Just my opinion for what its worth.
Frothing on the RS1000. So amazing.
Anyboard that is awesome feedback. How I wish to be 65kg!
Now the other end of the spectrum 85-90kg. I have proned this wing in utter dribble like 6s .2ft wind swell and 10-12s 1.2-1.5m swell. It is god dang amazing.
Whilst I like the rest of the world have an 1150 on order I didn't but it specifically to prone surf. The 1000 is going to be my go too. The 1150 is for both demo purposes and to open a few doors like prone DW and wing DW when in Perth. For waves it will be 1000/650. It pumps better than the 160 and as it generates so much speed you cover distance rapidly.
Eppo for a one wing quiver the 1000 and FTS is all you will need.
Yeh at 75kg ya probably right rich. Haven't got my hands on one yet. Anyone coming to Mandurah these hols let us know ????
Eppo. I'll be down in Mandurah over Christmas and possibly new year. You can take my RS1000 for a spin one day if wind and waves are any good. I'm hoping for a Christmas Eve downwinger. I'm still adjusting to new foil and haven't had chance to get out in any decent sized waves. Pete.
Perfect. Sent my number to you. Although chrissy eve is looking at bit average at the moment on the forecast.
ps the RS is the right colour for Christmas that's for sure ho ho ho
