Hi Guys
We have been working super hard to get this paddle going and although short notice we hope you'll get behind us.

Maybe get a team of you together, police, firefighters, nurses, ironmen/women or recreational paddlers.

It's $25 per paddler (Tax Deductible) with all proceeds going to Flood Victims.

Bring your camp out gear and help support Jacko, Jamie & Justin on their 24hr Marathon.

Jacko is attempting to do the whole 24hr Solo.

There will be Lighting at Night time and BBQ provided at times over the 24hrs.

Please come down and help us raise much needed $ for all the QLD people that need our help so much.

Cheers Jacko & Angie

Media Release
24HR PADDLEBOARDING MARATHON EVENT TO RAISE MONEY FOR QUEENSLAND FLOOD VICTIMS
For Immediate Release
In response to the recent Queensland floods Gold Coast stand up paddleboarders will this weekend come together and paddle in teams for 24hrs in an effort to raise much needed funds for the victims of Queenslands largest natural disaster.
The paddle marathon which is being led by nine time world paddleboarding champion Jamie Mitchell, his brother Justin Mitchell who runs the Jamie Mitchell School of Paddle and Surf and Paul Jackson owner of Paddleboarding retailer ROAR Industries will be held on Currumbin Creek starting at midday on Saturday the 5th of February and continue through until midday Sunday.
Jamie who will this year make his annual pilgrimage to Hawaii to take on the worlds best in an effort to secure an unprecedented 10th straight World Championship said “When you see the devastation caused by events like these it's easy to be left feeling powerless to help, the fact is that you can help and this is our way of doing our small part to help those that have lost so much of what we generally take for granted.”
Paul Jackson who recently returned from winning Australia's premier SUP distance race in Western Australia is intending to undertake the marathon solo said “The lives of the people affected by these floods have been changed forever, for us to take 24hrs out of our lives to raise some money for our fellow Queenslanders feels like the least we can do.”
Justin Mitchell a former international paddleboarding champ who now runs the Jamie Mitchell School of Paddle and Surf says that the event has already had great support from local business through the donation floodlights and other equipment needed to safely stage a paddling event throughout the night.
The trio of paddleboarding champs are encouraging all members of the paddleboarding community to get involved with the event this weekend. All monies raised through the paddle marathon will be donated to flood victims through the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
Individuals and teams wishing to take place in this great community event should contact Justin Mitchell to register on 0416 075 994.
When – Saturday the 5th of Feb Starting Midday-to-Midday Sunday the 6th of Feb
Where – Currumbin Creek (Winders Park)
Contact – Justin Mitchell 0416 075 994

this a great opportunity for everyone to work on some paddling technique and it's for a good cause. plenty of time to see what works, get some tips from the crew and have a chin wag with the top paddlers on technique in the downtime and then get out there again and try it out
cheers

Jacko, where in the creek are we paddling, Is it suited to an hour per paddler on rotation? I assume it is just up and down out front of Winders Park.

Mac- thanks for the offer, I'll put you down for an hou....., on Sat & Sun

ChrispyChru - I am going to make up a schedule based on 1 hour slots, I just need to workout the best way to do it. Maybe start another thread.

Had a couple of people just wanting to donate (not paddle) to show support. Is there something set up for this?

I was thinking the same thing, will the bbq be setup as a fundraiser too, selling sausages to non-paddlers? Would be good to be able to drum up support from the wider community too.

A team only need one board, so I imagine there will be plenty spare ones available. I'll bring my two boards on the day (and night!).

Jacko mentioned something about the usual rental boards too so I'd think he'll come back to us on that too...

Well done to Jacko, Jamie and Justin for putting this together. Great idea.

The SUPSA Prezzo is on this Friday night (before the midday Sat start) so you are sure to get lots of support. Good way to work off all of those "Duke Style" ambers...

Count me in. Im not fit enough for a big hit but will try get a team together to support this.

Ok, we seem to have a lot of paddlers who want to put their hands up and help out with this effort.

I am putting together a team of around 8-12 people, which would mean around 2-3 hours each. So far we have CMC, Laceys, Piros, Dale Chapman and I "signed up". If you would like to join this team please send me an email with your contact details and preferred time slots.

If you are from interstate and want to paddle let us know and we will slot you into a team. Dont worry about equipment as we should have plenty here. If you cant make it over and want to donate then I would suggest contacting Jacko at his shop.

There's no way I would miss this paddle. There will be a great bunch of people on the creek all paddling together and to be able to cheer Jacko on with his challenge and do something for a good cause will be something you'll remember for a good while to come.

TC Yasi is looking super scary so even more people will need our help come Wed night.
