PSH HULL 9'6" RIPPER DEMO TAKE No1
Caught up with Spencer walking his dog at dawn today
and he kindly invited me to demo the PSH HULL RIPPER.
I gladly accepted the invite, picked it up on the way around to the
Carlton River car park, wiped the frost off the board bag, dressed
in neo from head to toe, grasped my trusty Watersport TAS all bamboo
paddle and took to the surf.
I have no affiliations with board suppliers, am 86Kg but probably 94kg when wet and suited up. The Ripper seemed very similar to my own custom board as far as
flotation is concerned. My board has similar chines and is a bit shorter at 9'0".
But the Ripper has quite fine rails, deep and rounded in the bow sections and less tail flip .. looks are pleasing and balanced and fairly light in weight.
Launched in the flat water and paddled around a bit and felt confident with stability
and paddleability, so took off into the break.
The wind was cross/on and the swell setty, waste to chest high. Quite challenging
in the chop but the board worked out through the broken waves with ease.
Managed to catch a few meaningful waves but there were no clean and powerful
faces to get out onto and really test the performance attributes of the board.
Good aspects were: easy paddling and take offs and the speed down the line,
even is spite of the poor conditions.
Because of the straighter tail and slightly longer overall length there was a need
to weigh back a bit on the turns but to be fair if there were more wave power and
board speed I feel that rail turning would come into effect and the conditions
weren't good enough to even try.
As far as the basics are concerned I feel confident that, at my weight, I could
paddle it out onto a good break and catch waves fairly easily.
Am now looking forward to my second demo on this board in cleaner waves.
ITS BACK the bank at the home of tassie sup has returned after being on hols. myself and the famous 2mt scored head high sreamers running for 200 m.
