Cool was curious that's all.
That's just part of the warnings on the product sheets. It's the same for shark shield and many similar products. More of a disclaimer.

Hate to steer this thread anywhere near back on track
But.
Talking to family at dinner tonight, we are planning next year's trip to Byron to fit in with different school holidays.
Wife and daughters not worried.
Mind you, I was the only one going in the water twice a day.
Or at all now I think of it.
Won't say it doesn't worry me, but no way it will stop me.

well, you would have to be concern if you surf Ballina .

according to the ever reliable gold coast bully the local council is going to stick with aerial spotting even tho testing to spot model sharks place under water only scored a 17% success rate.

reports say lots of sharks still around that area.

locally a shark caused concern in today s 666 distance on the goldie I have it from reports

I did actually post before a link that has shown the water temps in WA spiked and have now returned to normal. Now in NSW the water temps are spiking (it was predicted thanks to El Nina ) and interestingly enough they have now found the same water temp spike for California.

The link has now been made suggesting that something changes with in the local ecosystem during these events. Either be that fish (Shark food) changing their behaviour of be it actual changes in the sharks themselves. That part is not known but the water temps have now been linked and for warned. I was told about a mouth ago the water changes will carry on South and down into the Southern Eastern region.

If you like i can try and find it again, but it is in this thread..

We've had heaps of sightings locally & elsewhere. Just been lucky with no attacks, I think people are a lot more cautious these days.

They're also finding that sharks don't just constantly migrate, they do hang around areas for considerable time. Which debunks the myth that removing large sharks that are hanging around would not reduce the risk of shark attack. Of course anyone with 1/2 a brain already knew that it would whether they hung around or were constantly migrating.

Just thinking today. You know pup was saying there are chemicals in a shark that if it gets killed get released in the water and the other sharks take off. Happen somewhere twice apparently and they found the connection.

Well couldnt they knock a couple of gws off down south and the rest would p1ss off

Knocking a couple off would reduce risk long term with a possible short term benefit...but you can buy the sh1t.

Repel Sharks

A substance developed in America that uses a natural chemical found in putrefied shark tissue that affects the smell and taste senses of a wide variety of shark species. Sharktec states "once our product is released into the water, a flight reaction is triggered in sharks that can clear a quarter mile safe zone for 30-45 minutes depending on currents and wind". The product is designed to hinder a sharks hunting ability through impeding its sense of smell and thus disrupting its sensory system. Unfortunately there haven't been too many reviews posted to know if the product lives up to its claims.

Retail: $29.99 USD

Pros:

Spray form, this could be a pro or a con depending on personal choice
Low cost
100% natural and biodegradable

Cons:

Depth rating of up to 13m
Only ejects for 60 seconds and lasts 30-45 minutes

^ Me too mate, aka "the good old days"...before charities became so profitable...I think we should start one called "Save Surfers", pay ourselves enough to conduct research around the world & speaking up against all these HC BS artist so called experts protecting the asshole GW shark conspiracy research which will never end until they wish to become unemployed.

I couldn't help but share this. Having talked to Great Whites she now has some very good idea on what the issue is..
A warning i couldn't make it past the 5 minute mark, just after she was joking how the sharks say we are a bit salty for their liking

Hope he's ok.

They'll get some more tagging boats up there to counter the newest attack.

That ought to help

I read the article the situation is out of hand.

The place is being bullied by greenies yet people are dying or getting mauled.

Ij it was a croc something would have be done long ago.

Its time to cull a few known hang about sharks and if reports are as they say the scent of death in the water might scare the others off

hey boofy that's a big bite. but they are saying a chemical in the killed sharks if released in the water other sharks don't like.

they are studying it. scent of death was not my term

noel no longer dw's, alain cant get him to go out anymore.

This one doesn't scare me as much as the others.

Surfing at 6.30pm, alone, near a river mouth. lots of rain lately and bait fish around.

It is when an attack is likely to happen. Whites and attacks in the middle of the day worry me more then what you'd call a typical east coast shark attack by a bull shark .

It is horrible luck and i hope the bloke recovers quick and witout lasting injuries.

Culling in this case IMO is ridiculous, like to see someone try to kill all the bull sharks around Ballina, would take a lifetime and never probably get the one you are after and if you did get the one you want then another one will just take it's place. The only real solution that will keep everyone happy is deterrents or barriers.

I see they say they will have nets deployed before xmas.

I don't know how the nets will work on the north and south wall, the bulls are in and out of the mouth all the time.
