contrary to belief, I am happy to announce that with all its design flaws the knife is showing some very good signs...it has been a comfortable board to ride straight off the bat...so far its best attributes are....great paddling...I think its low nose entry rocker is playing a big part
stable on take off....that has to be the blades, I'm thinking...when I jump up its like standing on a bubble , that is the only way I can describe it...a stable bubble that's lifting me
hugs the wave face....that's the blades for sure...it just grips the face and takes off when you lean into a turn, when I put my beer gut into it, it just takes off
constant inertia......the thing will just keep going, it will run along the bottom of the wave through white water and link up with sections...it is almost like it's going fast...but how can that be...could this board be defining the laws of physics...surely not...oh dear for one moment there my emotions went unchecked....so blow me down...I was told it would not work...it has design flaws...AND IT WORKS...who would of thought, that after 45 years of surf design and 55 years of surfing that I would just luck into something that works....oh dear....I must sound like I am pounding my chest....sorry thrill seekers....(note to sel******o not pound chest)...but hang on...narcissism is the new black...oh and I know...sarcasm is the lowest form of whit....no f#ck it...I'm going to get a stupid fluoro wetsuit and a gath helmet and wait for some one to shoot me out of a cannon...oh but wait...my beer gut....what about my beer gut....dam...I must give up the piss....no I'm going to get a pair of John lennon glasses....things will look different through those....my boards will look better....my bottom turns will look better....my beer gut will turn into a six pack....I'm an aussie and I'm gunna HTFU

I can't tell, so you're happy with your result

Thanks for the thread. I love the fact that you said what you were going to do, you've shared the process and finished, Explained you thoughts along the way and shown photo's of the finished product, surfing and hovering. Thanks for the journey I've really enjoyed it.. The board looks great and so glad it works well

I didn't say that the board wouldn't work I said that the runners will produce unnecessary drag.

had some clean little waves to myself this morning...got to know the knife a little better...this board is fun to ride...its no breakthrough in surf design...actually it feels a little retro...I think the hipster would love this board, I'm calling it a mid length cruiser....its rather flat rocker and hard rails, together with the blades, are giving it its inertia I'm sure and that feels really nice...sweet spot is small and aft...probably due to the lift off the blades...you have to get over the top of them, but you can stay there it just keeps flowing from rail to rail...you can concentrate on style, things are almost slowed down...it must be that unnecessary drag coming into play....most of the time I'm just using the necessary drag....because we all know...any thing on the bottom of a surfboard will create drag....that's why we foil fins FFS....to eliminate drag....however we all must be told because we aint half a stupid bunch...especially those fat alcoholic pie eaters....whoever they are.

Thanks Ron. Loved that review. Interested to hear how it goes on late take offs with some angle - does it track as the blades grip or does it perform as a normal finned board ?

Hey Duck is that 70's pic at the old shed at Korora ?
i bought my 1st newbie of you there it was a 6 foot pintail white and marone pintail single with perfect pin lining ......wish I had kept it ......fantastic rider , I remember the 1st surf was at Gallows ...no leg rope as I hadn't enough money for one ,went nearly verticle on first wave and lost it ,it ended up drifting towards the rocks at Southern end and went into the crevice that was there back then and didn't touch a single rock ,when I got there it was laying on the small amount of sand untouched or scathed, funny now but not then ,I was around 15 or 16 and worked hard for that board ,I better come and see u for another ay

the old Kororo shed....fond,fond memories there Marky....now if those walls could talk.....boards were coming out of there from 1972 until the mid 80's....they were heady times...we did a lot of boards...two shapers...Billy Tolhurst and myself...we would bounce ideas off each other all the time....sometimes we would be frothing so much over a new idea we would burn the midnight oil and go right through the night working on a new board...paddle out at dawn to wash the sanding dust off...man they were good times...so lucky to be a surfer

Ron, your comment about lucky to be a surfer reminded me of something you said the last time we met about a year ago, you mentioned Billy's shoulders were so bad that he was told he could never surf again.

Did that happen and how has he managed to cope without surfing?

doesn't seem to track at all Ted...like I said it flows real nice from rail to rail... don't know about late take offs yet...how late can you be on a two footer....I will try an even bigger fin in it next...it almost coaxes you to try and get the turns seamless...that's how I'm trying to surf it anyway, and it is responding....I made the blades oversize...like I did in the seventies, with the idea to cut them down bit by bit until I could not feel them...you know...easier to sand them down rather than build them up (push the envelope first and work back has always worked for me)...but anyway as it stands they will be this size for a long time as I'm loving it the way it is right now....mind you that may all change when its in some size...wait and see.....I am leaning towards saving this one as is, and doing another donation board...one that I can chop and change....beauty of the computer shapes...I can re produce with the click of my mouse

How does it go on rail bro...when you change the angle of attack and lay it right over do the side knifey bits (technical term) engage more....do you reckon the total surface area is more or less than a side bite fin?

They kind of remind me of the flare's you see on cray boat keels some time's used to assist with planning and stability at speed

when you lay it over it squirts out of the turn....if you are not ready it will out run you...if your waiting for it ,it feels great...size wise I don't know....I would say probably close to equal.....I made them oversize with the intent to tune them up by reducing them bit by bit...to date they are fine...this all may change in waves with some grunt...of which it has not seen yet.

ok I'm over this sh#t....I'm bored and its taken up too much of my time...so I'm outa here, but before I go I have a confession to make...the whole thing is a sham....I have manipulated this whole thing and I will be guilty as charged....it was tongue in cheek the whole thing...I'm sure most of you must get it "Roys gun project"....Rons knife project".......I baited you big time Roy, and you took it like a giant trevally.....you lurked around for awhile but then you came in and went on with your usual antics...your like an open book mate...with you its always the same washing machine...just a different cycle...your very easy to read...you think I only comment on things that suite my agenda...take a look at yourself...I manipulated you to where I didn't have to lock horns with you...and you didn't even realise it.....you lowered yourself to personal abuse...because you lost your cool and got angry...something I watched you do to people time and time again, and the person on the other end was pissing himself laughing...such is the internet....you never know if emotions are in check...or is he having a huge lend of me...you see you don't know me, so it was a classic case of mistaken identity...you mistook me for someone who gives a f#ck....I'm an old man...a spent cartridge really so I don't really care what you or anyone else thinks of me....I did not do this to win friends so we could gang up on you...I was just really pissed that single handed you have poisoned this once uniquely happy forum, and I strongly feel you should be held accountable....you can dissect this post and come back with your twists...you can show off your intellect....but I'm sorry, you are still a prick.......so there you go that is my confession...it got a little out of hand and I'm not proud of that ....I fabricated the whole lot...to the point where I knew exactly how I would end it...I started at the end and worked backwards actually...right from the start I designed and built a KNIFE YOU CAN TAKE TO A GUNFIGHT

HAPPY EASTER EVERONE HOPE YOU ALL GET WAVES.

Yes Roy is well known for his antics but hey one person is not going to destroy a good thing.
