No other side of the gold course, Balangan...its a very fast breaking sectiony wave best on lowest & highest tide. Ketut got some pics of it on a great day 2 days ago, good swell direction, tide & wind. But still, look at the whitewater. Those waves are still screamers

Its not mine either but its one of my fav places - beach is not too over developed, a lot less hassle and a nice warm up for the real event its a 7/10 wave - lots of higher classed waves not far away though.

Can't imagine what it's like now. Used to hang out there decades ago...sleeping in the top deck of one of the 2 or 3 bamboo and wooden losmens at night, sometimes waiting for someone else to turn up to have some company out in the line up.
Used to get invited up to the losmen owners village aways up the dirt track to eat dinner with them.
Those were the days.

Yes its a beautiful beach, the warungs remind me of The Swiss Family Robinson treehouse lol...its great for us, coz its comfy for the missus to hang while I surf. They started charging $5 to use their lounges 2 years ago though. Before that $5 would get you a couple of ayam burgers & fanta's...but hey, yep awesome

You can still do that now, only you won't be waiting so long for company

Sad news today chaps Scar Reef claims a victim. RIP. 27 is too young.

A Victorian man has died after a huge wave smashed into him while surfing on a remote Indonesian beach.Warrnambool-born Peter Luke, 27, died while surfing five-metre waves off Jelenga Beach in West Sumbawa.Local police say two of his friends used a boat they had hired to search for Mr Luke after he went missing on Monday. They eventually found his body on a nearby reef.
<div class="ad adCentred">Advertisement
West Sumbawa police chief Teddy Hendyawan Syarif says the surf at the spot known as Scar Reef was huge at the time.‘‘The victim’s death was caused by a wave smashing into him, which at that time was massive, up to five metres high,’’ he told reporters.Police were co-ordinating with Australian authorities to repatriate Mr Luke’s body, he said. Two days ago his friends from across the globe began posting tributes on Facebook, describing Mr Luke as an “absolute legend” who died doing what he loved.Kes Mccrindle wrote he was surfing with his friend when the accident happened.“I was with him in the line up just before I happened and he was so happy,” he wrote on Facebook.Mr Luke’s Facebook page is mostly restricted to the public, but his profile picture shows him snowboarding, flying high above the white powder. The island of Sumbawa lies to the east of better-known islands Lombok and Bali, but its waves lure surfers who are willing to make the trek.A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said: ‘‘Consular officials are providing assistance to the family of an Australian man who has died in Indonesia.’’Mr Luke was a keen sportsman and a strong swimmer, but had not lived in Warrnambool for several years, having spent time in northern NSW and Queensland as well as working in the Canadian ski fields in Whistler.Friends have described him as an adventurer in Facebook tributes.Mitch Roberts wrote that Mr Luke “saw and did a lot more in his short life than most people would do in a full one”.He said “the lad knew how to have a good time. Glad I got to share a lot of those times with him”.Levi Muddle wrote that his friend’s bright aura and passion for life was contagious. “Will always remember the fun times we had.”

Racetrack at Ulus - 3ft with a few bigger ones every now and again. Forgot how great a wave it is but the crowds were Snapper & Manly like by mid morning. Nice to get off to a good start. Yest it was 5ft - dam it! Now I just need to find somewhere to watch the Bledisloe

Surfed a fun burleigh yesterday, and then found a super fun beachy not far away.
Today I surfed some punchy ones up this end on a shallow bank...couple of nice ones,a few horrible ones that drained fast turning the wave yellow lol
Will be nw wind tomorrow with a already a rising swell tonight. Will be extremely good at brunch up here

Monday will be a three surf day I think yeeeeeoooooooooow

On tomorrow I think it will be rubbish all morning with the amount of east howling atm. Will take some good winds a while to clean it up imo
