For sure mate, people with a lifetime of stories have some great stories to tell of the way things once were & what they've seen along the way

And it's now your responsibility to embellish them suitably and make them your own.

Not really, the story sounds heaps better told from our elders...but I will pass them on, please feel free to do the same. If its BS, theres a good chance someone will call you out on it...personally I don't doubt what Peter told me after living up North & working South of King island on a scallop boat. You should never underestimate the ocean...

bit off topic JB, but are the RIB's they've got imported? I think the bigger ali boats they have are locally built, just thinking that if they are to spend those dollars at least they do it locally. Mick you're a cynical bastard but spot on as usual

The inflatable you see are about $400,00 to $600,000. My mate works for company building them and he is responsible for finishing them and fitting out. That's how i got the info regarding actually killing/shooting sharks. But to be honest the boat should only be about $250000 but its all the bull**** that goes into these things for there personal comfort. Things like not just a stereo with i pod dock and two speakers. They need full Fusion CD, I pod doc units with built in memory. Amps, subwoofers and about a trillion speakers. They instead of needing a computer screen on one console they have a bout three replication the one unit. The radios, VHf, and communication products needed to be tested for Micro wave radiation, so now they Just in case carry not one but two satellite phones. The seats are about $15000 each and are heated and cooled for there driving comfort. Each boat had to be refitted with toilets after they employed there first female officer. (no biggie there as she needs a toilet, but every boat?) Special colour tint windows that will help with fatigue.

The list goes on and on[}:)] Way over kill...Almost to the point of being to hard to deal with.

Once again spending over half a million on each boat when they could really get two for the same price if they were even half resonable

Oi!! I resemble that comment Damo!

Rod, I haven't seen any footage of what they're up to, don't have a tele.
As an aside I can't believe your local has banks at the mo, good ones too judging by the pics you put up. Don't think I've seen a summer bank there since before the wall was built, used to get a sick left bank off that reef with the southerlies....

Yeah it was not that bad. To be honest I've had the place on good days and although it doesn't get that big it can have a good run down the line. That day you could take of and head left for a turn then change and finish running right until you run out of water It can get hard with crowds though but after living there for nearly 20 years i do okay. But i still cant get it wired but i know if you get it on the turn you can get 30 or so minutes of joy followed by absolutly nothing

The first pick is of the specific shark patrol boat that they currently have. Having said that they are now spending $2 million dollars to build a better one[}:)]

This is a pick of one of the Niads and a government patrol or naval boat. Im not sure what it is. But they then said that numbers on teh beach were down that day. Gee i wonder why[}:)]

Last one is just a cool shot that came onto my face book page today. I don't know the surfer or any info but just thought it cool

thanks JB, that is insane. They pay me regular visits and I'm now suitably unimpressed with the overkill regarding the fitout, the crew at Mandurah Sea Rescue seem to make do with a lot less! The shark patrol boat you posted, is that locally made? In the end at least your mate is doing Ok out of it, so it's not all bad.

Just read JBShacks comments re the fisheries vessels. What a full blown dickhead!! Talk about a halfwit with half the information. The RIBs he referred to don't belong to Fisheres. They are privately owned. The mother vessel is the North Islander - an ex Abrolhos Islands carrier boat and also not Fisheries. Yes the other vessel Hamelin is Fisheries. It was built by Western Boat Builders in 2001. There are no Fisheries RIBs in the pictures.

The seats in Fisheries boats are KAB524s. They do not cost anything like $15,000 but if you want to know then ring KAB. They are built for trucks and heavy machinery. They are not heated or cooled. They have suspension and so they should if your crew spend 30 years bouncing around on them in a high speed boat. They last the life of the boat which should be about 20 years. I don't think the Government would want numerous lawsuits from crippled employees.

The toilets were retrofitted in two boats to keep the construction price down. If they were put in before survey the requirements would have been much greater and more expensive. The toilets are portapotties - very cheap. I don't expect you to understand this as you are a bitter halfwit.

The three screens you are talking about are for the plotter GPS, sounder and internet, the last one so that licenses can be checked at sea so you dont have to employ another person back on land to look these things up - a very big saving if you think about it.

The satellite phones were put in two vessels (one in each) as these vessels operate in remote areas in the north of the state where Next G and VHF have no service. The only other option is HF and if you knew anything you would know this is less reliable than ever as almost no one uses it anymore. It had nothing to do with radiation you dickhead.

The boats do not have tinted windows as it is not permitted under survey.

The stereo has two stereo speakers and one sub - So What!!!

I bet the boat builder would be please to know one of his customers is being badmouthed by one of his employees. You must be one good mate to let that slip.

You are a classic case of it being far better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think you're a dickhead than opening your mouth and proving it. I can't wait to read what you think you know about killing sharks. Why dont you and your mate climb back under your rock.

Went of the same tour in Albany. Our guide said the largest white ever found was something in the order of 7m. Would make sense as most of the really big ones these days are 5 or 6m.
Either way doesn't matter what size a 4m shark could eat you whole. What we need to do is protect these poor innocent creatures of which are clearly almost extinct, and rig up fisheries with bargain basement canoes coz it's clear from the logical arguments That they live in the lap of luxury

I actually got pulled over by the cop boat for skip ticket check what a beast of a boat. Had good convo with them and they indicated the niaid was about 250k. So yes thought jb was tripping again

Maybe suba could use the 600k ones to tag some big fish

Heres a bit more Bakesy.

A private 10 meter quoted at around $290000 to $350000
Not in survey, not with all the extra requirements that fisheries need. Also smaller. In this one it mentions $5000 seats. (maybe i slightly exaggerated the $15000 each but i don't think fisheries run the standard seats either) Happy to have ROH prove me wrong. Again
www.boatsonline.com.au/boat-review/kirby/power-boats/kirby-10m-naiad-2012/136

Here's a link to one of the new 12mtr boats being rolled out
www.kirbymarine.com/articles/FD12%2011.3m%20NAIAD.PDF

As per ROH's input it will be interesting to see just what else he has to say. My point is i guess, or should have been more targeted at the spending by fisheries. I don't have an issue with the fisheries officers actually having some comfort. But i do take umbrance at the continued spending over and over when nothing seems to happen. Sorry other than fisheries asking to see me flares are in date

Maybe ROH as you seem to be speaking from some area of expertise you could share with us what you know of fisheries and there tagging program Do you have any info in this area should we ask you some questions, or is this just a one punch response and run Happy to start another thread so you can share....

As for the pictures i put up if you had actually read it i said that the patrol boat i have no idea who's it is. SO who's is it Why was it there

Happy for any info you have mate so don't just poke and run That's all anyone wants on here and me especially. Some answers and you seem to have them all

There is no doubt they are impressive. The 12mtr will do somewhere like 50 knots in a sea
