What do you do for a job? If I just read a bit and questioned stuff, would I know more about your job than you do? Do you know more about medicine than the average surgeon?

I'm an Engineer. Actually I think I might in a narrow focus.

Example: I spent ~$1600 going to numerous dermatologist trying to figure out the cause of a rash. I had 4 blood tests and the end result was sorry you've got an auto immune disease we don't know the cause try these really expensive and strong steroidal creams.

Sorry Dr. I don't think more steroids is going to tell my white blood cells to stop attacking my skin.
So I started looking at what would cause this... immune system gone mad? No still seams to work with infections... must have an infection. Hey my tooth bleeds when I floss...
Had my tooth out, rash gone. Every dermatologist recommended the same BS.

Another example: Spent ~ $3000 going to Neurosurgeons after a spinal fusion left me slightly paralyzed and with serious cramping.

Drs: Sorry this is caused by X, Y & Z there's no way to repair the nerves... go to pain clinic.

My result: AAKG 3gr a day for a month = 80% better.

Paid specialist vs common sense.
==================================

Now again Chris when you pay for a result and NOT a question you will get the result you pay for.

Many REAL scientists argue the findings of the paid for scientists. There is no consensus.

There's a bunch of stupid people thinking their doing something good for the Earth, when in reality all their doing is providing a source of power to a new bureaucracy.

And that Chris, I have an issue with; a bureaucracy that's sneaking in by deception.

I'm all in favor of saving the planet from us... give animals rights, stop deforestation, ban a whole bunch of chemicals, make all packaging biodegradable...

Flysurfer, you had your tooth out and you cured yourself, you are now a dermatologist and auto imunune specialist.

I have this pimple that keeps coming up then going down again, what would you recommend Dr. flysurfer ?

Ross Garnaut is an economist, and he is paid to deliver a result.

Pugwash is a scientist, not a very good one, but a scientist nonetheless

Pugwash has not entered the science side of the debate because it is waaaaaaayyyyy too hard basket.

The politics part of the debate is a different story, and much simpler to analyse.

OK, can we get this straight, once and for all time.
This is an elected parliament!
An elected government is an elected government and can only be removed by a vote of no confidence..... or if the Queen thinks she'd like a bit of fun , but that's another story.
Pugwash, you're wasting your time thinking that when an opinion pole gets to some magic number, or Alan Jones hates Gillard enough, or Tony Abbot thinks he was that robbed at the election then the Country goes to an election. We're 2 years from an election, your mob needs to think about policy and stop the faux outrage, and the "we're all doomed" stuff.

My mob Log?

Which mob is this? It cannot be assumed that someone who does not like this coalition* likes the Libs! Or, do you mean the torch carrying angry mob that arrives at night to burn at the stake.

Mmmmm steak. Not angry either. Slightly miffed, and incredibly bemused

* I believe there is now a consensus on SB that this is not a Labs government, but a coalition of the me's - and thus no lies were told by Dullard.

So what you are saying is that because doctors sometimes get it wrong, therefore the climate science consensus is wrong? The balance of opinion in one field of learning is wrong because an unrelated area of learning may be wrong in some instances?

Since medicine often NOT normally follow the scientific method but often works on case studies and other methods that do not use the scientific method, the fact that medicine has issues doesn't mean that climate science is wrong.

On your logic, since some products created by engineers have failed me and I've rebuilt them, all engineers are crap and anyone can create products just as well as any engineer can.

Not all engineers have agreed with each other throughout history. Even in something as simple as a pushbike, the engineers from Cervelo, for example, disagree in some ways with the engineers from other companies - therefore you can't trust any of them, according to your way of thinking.

Since you seem to reckon there's no such thing as expert knowledge, I hope you don't claim to have any expertise in your job.

I've got no issue with Pugwash's approach, which is to say that even for other scientists it's too hard to work out who is right on the scientific question. But saying "I don't know, it's too difficult" is very different from your approach of "I know 'cause I'm brilliant and they are stupid conspirators".

And "stupid people"? Oh, please, how many climate scientists do you think are "stupid"?? Do you really think you can succeed in a field like that with a lower than average IQ? Where's you're evidence that many of them are "stupid"?

So not only do you know all about climate science, you can also do remote-controlled IQ testing. Wow.....

BTW about your medical discoveries - google "placebo".....

What is the Labs primary vote up to now, 24% or 26%. Pretty impressive. Did you say support for the Labs is at an all time low.

Was that Libs leading 61 per cent to Labs 39 per cent on the two-party preferred

Was that Mr Rabbit leading 51 per cent to Red Rangs 40 per cent on preferred PM

Did you say 56 per cent of voters want a fresh election --> Pugwash is so mainstream, man!

I am no scientist, and no pun intended, however it's not rocket science to see that the reason we don't want a carbon tax is that it won't go to research, it will go into the bueracracts pockets and prop up the welfare black hole and it is hypocritical to even think of taxing australia, (who produces a miniscule amount of carbon on the world stage), and still keep flattening the rain forest at the rate of hectares per second.

Let's just keep repeating everything.

it won't go to research

FARMERS stand to gain from a $429 million investment pool. It's designed to fund research into the best ways to store carbon in the soil and drive down pollution in the agriculture sector.

Not forgetting farmers are exempt from the tax.

A biodiversity fund, attracting $1 billion in revenue, will provide grants for revegetation, as well as ecosystem management including protecting endangered species.

Can't find a reference but there is $10B going into green energy research.

But besides all of this the tax makes green energy more attractive. As CO2 emitting energy source become more and more expensive green energy becomes comparatively cheaper and cheaper. You'd want to be in the solar panels manufacturing business right now.

it will go into the bueracracts pockets and prop up the welfare black hole

Just because?

hypocritical to even think of taxing australia, (who produces a miniscule amount of carbon on the world stage)

If my taxes are a minuscule amount of the national pool should I bother paying them?

and still keep flattening the rain forest at the rate of hectares per second.

It's not hypocritical at all. And this is not Brazil.

It's like $10 ...if you're making over $100K ... I just... I'm completely flabbergasted by what appears to be a mob calling to burn a witch, in Australia, in 2011, over this?

OHH! good lord I had no idea that this was an unpopular government making unpopular decisions.
2 years mate. 2 years to go, yeah one year and then another year after that one. Then we have an election, lets see how your mob are traveling then.
I remind you of the deep unpopularity of Howard and the coalition before the asylum seekers debate started. My point is Labors leader is a better human than the coalitions leader. And Labor have policy to point at and the conservatives have.... not much. Opinion polls are not election results.

Howard came back from similar in 7 months, and it seems pretty clear that most people don't understand what it is they are talking about. There are two years for everybody to go "Aahh, is that how it works. Gee, what was I worried about? What the hell was Tony on about then?"
