Speaking of a lot to do on the hard this year, I managed to get three of my boys to help prepare the hull for a coat of primer. We spent Sat and Sunday stripping the remainder of paint and sanding. We used Norseal Wood Treatment by Norglass. The hull has come up so nice that it seems a shame to paint over and I would love to use an effective UV blocking clear cote finish but i think no such product exists. Being the custodian of this fine old girl I will lean towards long term preservation and less annual maintenance.

What a treat to see such tremendous workmanship under that old paintwork.
Almost makes the sanding an enjoyable task!
You may have mentioned previous, but what is the species of timber?
Great job and yes,I'm a fan of Norglass and used it throughout the latest boat build of mine.

Started on my mast fittings and picked up my little red Bukh
The leg has new seals fitted and sail drive cones are slipping ,motors done roughly 3000 hours the previous owner said it has no oil leaks and he flush it out with fresh water. Ill tuck her away for a few months ,next years project
that motor looks in excellent condition, My exhaust elbow looks much worse than that and it is only 12months old, no paint flaking off, hoses in good nick, I want one!
Libran, now that you pointed it out, ouch! Before that I was too engrossed drooling over all that beautiful timber, I didn't even see that originally.
Guitz, if there is anyway you could leave it unpainted, (says he who doesn't have to maintain it). It seems almost sacrilegious to paint over that! Great effort! Thx for the link on the Tallawood, I read it can be used as mallet heads and for bearings! Tough enough!
Andy, the 24 knots video was taken apparently with the boat in cruiser mode (fair bit on board), with 2 reefs and gennaker, no kite . Bit suss on the gps calibration, but 20+ should be achievable.
It shows to me what is possible when someone designs a boat to be efficient, not to suit a handicap rule. I enjoy handicap racing but I do think IRC has caused all the manufacturers to build slow boats, something that neither a cruising or a racing sailor want. I like cruising as much as racing, but if I can cruise at 15 knots instead of 6 I'll take it!
wow Guitz
looks gorgeous
Ill second that thought Guitz nothing better than timber

Have a look at the yacht Tempus Fugit.
I'd post a link if I knew how.

Yes. Well that would tend to take out any feeling of boredom from the situation.

My God.
You'd never finish working on it. You'd finally get to the bow only to start all over again. Beautiful boat though.
Edit: Looks funny seeing them all on the rail.

Hi Andy
Its a 89 model came out of a Cav 37 the cones are slipping in the sail drive gearbox the leg has had new seals. Ill give it some diesel and water in a week or so see how she runs. Previous owner told me she runs around 65 c which will be OK compared to the 45 c I was getting out of my DV20. So after the run if it gets to around the 60 c Ill put a small hot water system on the boats list for next year
I like the sound of that HG, hot water and a heat exchange all rolled into one! Is 65 really ok if your other is 45?
Only took me 6months to fit my new self Taylor's. They wont be coming of in a hurry that's for sure. These winches are a size up from the old 27s can't wait to take her for a test sail!
Fitted my new cabin toaster to help cope with Tassie weather when it's not tropical!
Is this diesel heater?
Yes it is!
Price? Installation? How much diesel does it use? Is it noisy?
About $2200 depending on how you set it up (How many ducted outlets, where it is mounted in relation to exhaust etc.). Has its own exhaust so it is very quite. Diesel consumption 100ml per hr. I am fitting mine myself I am a carpenter, good clear instructions!!
Started on my anchor winch deck mounting
Dropped off my sails for a tidy up
Made it out of laminated fiberglass sheet epoxy glued together
Does It get a bit of shade where it is moored in the creek?
No mate, no shade at all. The boat would be 30ft+ and fairly high freeboard so there's a lot of hull exposed. No doubt he wants to show off
the workmanship, and why not.
Very cool HG, how thick is it? Did you do the ply build up?
No mate shes all fiberglass this part is on deck not underneath
Once the top of it is drilled cut and finished thr bottom of this part had to be made so it takes in the curve of the deck and is plane as the top of the bowspit
