Haven't surfed for 3 - 4 weeks now. Have been walking at the park. Tried to stand on my exercise ball. That was interesting. I used to be able to do that when i was 50 or so. At 65 and a couple of kilos heavier it isn't happening. Mick Fanning makes it look easy. But I am a bit bummed out
when I look at surf cams and Manly has at least 200 in the water and I have never seen so many at Shark Island. I can drive down the coast a little and surf breaks with nobody around. I am doing the right thing but that might change soon. At my age I will forget how to paddle let alone pop up quickly. I guess that will be one less in the water when we get back to normal. Ahh feel better now that I have said something about the numbers.

In the free world it should be encouraged to look at every argument and both sides of a debate .
Its a very dangerous thing to close down opposing views and unfortunately we are seeing more and more of it.

From what i can see in the paper this morning they will not lift restrictions until they have 7500 ventilators nationally.
So looking at that they dont think they can stop the virus, they just delayed the rise until they were up to speed medically.

Yep Think the policy has been to maintain the disease at a level that the health system can cope with - until a vaccination is available . Was reading that Morrison is operating off a plan developed back in about 2006 - after the SARS outbreak (another Coronavirus) .At that time they had planned to develop a corona virus vaccine as well - but the cost blew out so it was scrapped .Probably regretting that now .

Indeed.

Our way or else democracy.

What I don't get is why?

Oz is in good shape due to most everyone doing the right thing, and instead of being rewarded they talk of extended restrictions?

WTF? We have every case tracked and only random new cases presenting. With the resources and knowledge that exists these can be contact traced and isolations enforced for select individuals based on evidence.

Instead we have a raft of draconian measures blanket applied that if sustained will cause irreprable ongoing economic damage. And beyond that more physical and psychological damage than the virus itself.

If they are that concerned about it getting away then target ground anyone with it or at high risk of getting it rather than everyone.

Enough is enough. It has been proven that if we maintain good sanitary habits, use face masks and gloves etc. that the virus is not transmitting via community contact.

Yep, exactly right. Its never been about controlling infection, we actually need people to be infected, it's about managing numbers so hospitals can cope.
They may have been to successful and reduced the amount of people that have been exposed which means we haven't developed a herd immunity which should be about 60% of the population. This could cause probs with a secondary spike if we get rid of the lock downs and social distancing before a vaccine is available.

Gov has done a great job in getting in front of it so they can plan but a long way from being over.

If the virus ran screaming through us like in NY 7500 would not be enough.

Besides it has been proven that ventilators can cause more harm than good by forcing the virus deeper into lung tissue under positive pressure.

So that excuse is simply that, an excuse.

It would be much more cost effective to round up everyone with a positive test and enforce isolation for six months.

And to ensure that anyone at high risk due to an existing condition is also isolated for six months.

Meanwhile the rest of to population can keep the country running and practice good hygiene and social distancing awareness in what would essentially become a virus free environment.

Any further outbreaks could then be identified and controlled systematically.

Oz is in an ideal position to do this and to recover economically.

Without the economy recovering we will cause knock on effects that will cause more damage than the disease.

And yet all I see is a population being controlled down to allowable social interactions by fear.

I can't speak for others but I would be happy to risk contracting and even dying due to this virus than give up the hard won freedom that our grandfather's father's fought and died for.

To me it seems that we are all more scared of possible loss and casualty than being willing to protect what people willingly gave their lives for in the past. FREEDOM.

WE HAVE ALL BECOME A BUNCH OF SOFT COCK PUSSIES.

Selling out universal freedom for personal nanny state safety.

And yes I get the tragedy of loss attached to this thing. But as out illustrious leaders point out we are at war, a war where they would sacrifice freedom and not allow the personal choice for us to fight to protect it.

Talk about setting the stage for tin foil hatter's to come up with all sorts of theories!

My great great granddaddy didn't fight for you to be selfish, he did the opposite.

They were dragged off to a war and gave up their life to help others. What you are saying is the opposite.
You want to act selfishly on your own motives that may kill people.

That's more like Hitler's thinking than that of an Anzac.

It's ****ing insulting to compare being drafted and making the ultimate sacrifice to protect those unable to protect themselves with being asked to stay home, watch telly and not surf for a few weeks.

It makes you sound like a dumb **** incapable of a logical thought.

Are you so sure MAC?

Look how it has been eroded so quickly with some fear and a lovely jingle that we are all in this together.

The way to beat this is in testing, testing, testing. And positive result isolation.

Why spend so much and destroy so many livelihoods?

I get it needed to be done in the first instance to combat an unseen enemy traveling by stealth throughout society.

But we now have that enemy isolate. We now have the weapons to track and test because we have a manageable target size.

We should now be taking the fight to the enemy. Instead we are hiding in our bunkers like pussies.

And are being told that this could go on for up to six months or longer?

And what concerns me and should concern everyone is when 4 guys sitting in a car eating a pizza and not effecting anyone else are dragged into paddy wagons. Granted I don't know the full details or if they where being belligerent etc.

But those examples should worry everyone.

That the best you got? To have a crack at someone and infer that they are uneducated through trite analogies about sphincters?

Come on bro surely you can do better than that?

Following the company, or in this case government line is not critical thinking old mate.

I actually agree strongly with what has been done and how this has been managed. A very difficult and dynamic situation.

But what I disagree with is strong arm enforcement of restricting freedoms.

Especially if people are self managing correctly minand causingimal risk to others.

And I disagree with the cops having the power to judge that subjectively.
