It's great to see a company standing by a product and attempting to make an indistructable board. Good on them. I can't help but feel the board will break into pieces if say a descent north west wave takes a fancy to testing it's metal or epoxy /carbon. I do like the tiki.

It doesn't matter how strong it is if it's a pig ... and it is.

If you look around, there are boards that are very strong, light, custom, locally produced, half the price and made by people who actually surf and have half a clue about what surfing involves.

I do ride Stand Ups lots and they are made by the same bloke who makes my shortboards. These days my knees are so rooted that if I dont start standing I dont get standing! Custom all the way any day of the week for me, but thats just my opinion and who am I to force it on anyone.
That being said, you might like to check this video out. Musics crap but for a bunch of kooks surfing on pigs they seem to be doing OK
Just wondering wether you would be wailing on this guy so hard if he was spruiking Fire Wire Hot Potatoes or some hipster brand mini Simmonds.

To tell the truth I love that kind of surfing and have always aspired to incorporate that skatey style into my own bag of tricks.
As a youngster I rode keel fishes when the status quo was single fin pins, I rode twins while everyone else was transitioning to thrusters and discovered quads and bonzers when the pack were struggling with hyper rockerd KS potato chips. Not a hipster by any strech...just love the speed and the drift.
I had the board below shaped about sixteen years ago and it has been refurbished once or twice. Have ridden it everywhere from Broken Head to Cloudbreak, hung it in the rafters for a few years, but always drag it out for a splash when the itch needs to be scratched. With rooted knees its more of a wall hanger these days but I know its going to get wet soon!





The board in these photos is sitting in my shed in a sad state of decrepitude, but on its day it was a freakin classic. Started life as a kneeboard for the brother of my shaper who had rooted hips. He soon discovered that kneeboarding was harder on his dodgy hips than standing up so it ended up sitting in the rafters of the shaping shed. Happened to look up one day and went shazam!! I'll have that! Actually its the last board other than Stand Ups that I have parted company with cash for







My point...if in fact I have one... is that one mans pig is another mans pearl. I would never peel off a wad of my hard earned for a board designed by a cat named Sven who spends most of his time reclining in a spa in the Swiss Alps whilst sucking on mulled wine. BUT...should you want to, go right ahead. Its your money and you can do with it what you like. There are plenty of ridiculously priced boards out there...long short and SUP. In fact some of you clowns have sheds full of them...enjoy, dont judge, go surfing or pour yourself another Bourbon

Probably. I don't get Simmonds' or aliaiaiaas or other things either. I did experiment for a year or two with short wide fish, but found myself automatically gravitating back towards less width, more refinement. They're fun for grovelling and even bigger stuff if shaped right, but there are lots of limitations. I'm fully on hpsbs again, even in 1' windwaves.

The guys in the vid are struggling. Lots of difficulty putting them on rail and lots of missed opportunities. But hey, a slow-mo blown air will sell me a board, right?

Bit like an old Dane vid, where he rides some ugly whale board. Sure, he rips on it compared to an average punter but compared to his shortboard vids it's a world of difference. Google will show you if you're interested.

the guys in the vid are pro SUP surfers, not shortboard surfers, so they are pretty much everyday joe schmoes like everyone on here.
i think your missing the point tho.

The Starboards are aimed to be a long lasting, light weight, small wave option for the everyday guy.

if people are lucky enough to be able to surf performance boards like yourself, then sweet.

but theres a lot of people out there that can't.

if you don't like them, dont buy one.

So why price them as a premium product?

And why brand them with sup branding?

And why do they cost as much as a 10' sup board that's twice the material cost?

I don't care one way or another if people buy them. It's just fun making fun of them.
