If you surf as little as you say, you were probably just bus riding foam. Like playing with Lego, great fun but don't go telling everyone about it. What I am trying to respectfully say is some of the blokes on here tear bags out of it (not me) and they are saying the opposite. A once off surfer isn't going to carry any weight in this discussion unfortunately. If you have been surfing for twenty years and said it rips then we'll listen.

i am probably the worst surfer around here. about 90 % of my experience comes from strapless kitesurfing, about 8 % from SUP and a tiny bit from actual surfing as there are hardly ever any surfable waves where i live. and the surfing i did wasn't too much fun because i was trying to get waves most of the time and i can't get myself to getting a longboard.

just came back from a holiday where i stumbled over the 6' Ultra. Had it for only half an hour but had so much fun and so many waves like never before on a surfboard. i hadn't thought it was possible for me to have fun on such a short board. since then i am looking for a less expensive alternative. haven't found anything yet but have to get something like that. the closest i saw was the lost couch potato. maybe that is where get will go to. but the ultra was such a great board for me. only too expensive.

The ultra seems a similar concept as the Firewire Baked Potato, I think they are a lot less $$$$. If your having fun go for it! You will be surfing small waves while the rest of the sheep are standing in Carpark. These hybrid type boards do rip, they are fast and best of all you have fun on them, and btw I've been surfing for over 50 years, I do have a bit of an idea....

;-) on the starboard site it says "intermediate to advanced riders will draw the most performance from this shape" and no, i am not a foam rider. once i am on the wave it's not too bad.

the way i understand it, the board is not primarily meant to be for experts. and i thought it might be nice to get an opinion from someone who actually surfed the board. to put it into perspective, i made it very clear what kind of lightweight i am.

@ SeatrekIII: thanks for the potato-hint. i guess i should consider that board too.

Nonsense post.

This is exactly the same as a learner driver jumping on a Porsche Owners forum and banging on at length about how his mum's Prado is the fastest car he has ever driven and that it handles really well...

gee, i for some reason stumbled to this post.

speaking from racing sups- light lay up carbon boards are not good for impact. tap it against some thing a normal epoxy board would even make a mark and low and behold you have a you have yourself a carbon ding. they do provide very good lateral strength tho

starby carbon surf sups- don't like them- no feeling no load up, no flex. a lot of money for a small crap wave board but if you live in perth!!!!!. most of theses boards are vacuum bagged then totally bogged all over to fill pin holes from the bagging process, this might give the impression they are more solid then they really are

short board carbon boards- why haven't the pro's been on them for years.

still, if there was a local demo day offering carbon shorties why wouldn't you have a go.

cheers
