At a national conference of the Australian Hotels Association, the general managers of Cascade Brewery (Tasmania), Tooheys (New South Wales), XXXX (Queensland), CUB (Victoria) and Coopers (South Australia) found themselves sitting at the same table for lunch.
When the waitress asked what they wanted to drink, the GM of Tooheys said without hesitation, "I'll have a Tooheys New."
The head of XXXX smiled and said, "Make mine a XXXX Gold."
To which the General Manager of Carlton & United, said "I'll have a VB, the King of Beers."
And the bloke from Cascade asked for "a Cascade, the cleanest draught on the planet."
The owner of Coopers paused a moment and then placed his order: "I'll have a Diet Coke."
The others looked at him has if he had sprouted a new head.
"Well," he said with a shrug, "if you ****ters aren't drinking beer, then neither will I."
Looking forward to being there. Firie and Kel sold it up here after the last one and hope to build up the FNQM numbers for this one.
Hey Justin, how far to a golf course? Just in case Huey doesn't play ball might toss in the clubs and take it out on a golf ball
Of the people going for the week, are you going for the week before or staying for the week after? Have to be in Melbourne for a wedding the following weekend so will have to drive back to Mackay to fly down
We are arriving on 24th and staying for 7 nights, cant wait. Should have speed board and new Koncept by then
It is great to have such accommadating team members. Who would have though...Maxi bring caviar Crackers (Jatz pepper are best) and Fitzy wanting to carry my kit to the water. ( any chance of rigging as well? I will need to fine tune myself though).
What a wonderful world.
Justin, We had found the Hervey bay resorts. Can't remember much about Burrum. We hoped there would be a something up market ( keep the family entertained while I selfishly sail all day long....Heheeh) . Must have the right ambiance for the three ingredients of a great day. 1. Sailing, 2. Ice cold beers 3. Well I'll leave this one to the imagination.
I've also been to Peppers Kingscliffe. How is that bay for wave riding?
Is there any problems with sailing on the competition days if I am not in the competition. I'd like to come down but I don't have a GPS and I'm not up to competition level.
I just can't see my self standing on the beach watching all you buggers having fun.
I don't mind staying away from the speed strip.
Cheers
Ian
Ian, you wont be the only one, not sure if I will get there yet but Im not a GPS freak, I know a couple of others in the same boat that are definatley going
Hi Ian,
for people that want to join in but don't have a gps we have a handheld radar gun. we take it to the event specifically to encourage participation and understand that not everyone has all of the kit. by entering the event you also go into the draw for the major prizes as well as stand a chance to win the radar class.
i'd definately encourage everyone to enter the event, it's also important for the longevity of the event. the other option if you come down and decide you don't want to compete is you could join in the action by joining the organising group. we are always looking for volunteers.
the course itself takes up the majority of the speed run, depending on wind direction ie, 3-4 km. so it is hard to sail in the flat water areas without entering the course. another potential issue is that freesailors don't usually attend the briefing and therefore aren't aware of the setup of the course or the instructions for the day regarding right of way and safety controls which can become dangerous out on the water.
last year we had a non competitor on the course. they came because the event was there but didn't sign on, then sailed the course unaware of the setup. although innocent it ended causing issues and resulted in myself being sent threats and slandered for months afterwards. contact was also made with a sponsor and MSQ to put a slur on the event.
because of that experience, this year we will be asking non competitors to leave the course area during competition. it's a shame and it's not the type of thing i really like doing but i unfortunately have no other choice.
now with all of that said, the course is set at low tide. so we usually sail from 12 noon till 6pm. all other times we will all be out freesailing and most of us are there for the week so there willl be plenty of opportunity.
O.K. Gestalt, thats why I asked, I fully understand. If I can sail without a GPS then I'm happy to pay up and join the competition.
I'd get a GPS but I spent my budget at Sausage 2nd Hand Windsurfing Pty Ltd
Brian,
I'm heading down to Hervey bay tomorrow for a week so I won't see you out there. I tried this arvo hopeing for a seabreeze but it was pathetic. I hope there is more wind in Hervey Bay then there has been in Yeppoon the last few weeks.
Have a good xmas everyone
Cheers
^ a safe and fun event is what i am trying to run. same rules apply for any windsurfing event.
surfing events are the same, try catching a wave in the middle of the judging zone. it's just not the done thing.
at the end of the day, we are there for 3 days out of an entire year and we are not pushing out the locals. the 2-3 locals are also entering or helping with the event.
last year i also spoke with MSQ and was informed that any craft sailing along the course is in the bigger picture competing and therefore needs to abide by the race committee's directions.
on the vicki point thing i'd give them space. anyways, i'm not making a storm out of a tea cup and won't harp on about it. if you want to have a further say please send me a pm or catch up at the beach. i all ears.
cheers ian,
if you need a pfd i am also trying to organise some extras. at this stage i have mine that can be used.
All good gestie, you hit the nail on the head with storm in a teacup- seems to be what bored windsurfers do, stupid since we're all chasing the same thing... wind & water & good times
So everyone to make new years wish for 30knots at burrum this year- let's see 40 on the dials all round
