yes but in sailing/windsurfing terms youth is typically under 20 and under 17 is junior

so i figure we sit in the middle somewhere.

but reality is we can set whatever age limit we deem suitable.

people under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian to sign their sign on forms so i see that is a good age forthe youth class.

Yes Justin you are correct.

The sailing/windsurfing rules are youth is under 19 by Dec 31 2010. Jo is still a youth for this year. Both the national and international events run under this (ISAF), although I have a feeling Formula may be different.

We might not make it up to the event as she is busy training for the RSX youth worlds in Istanbul in July. We'll see

Also good news for windsurfing - Jo received a UQ sports scholarship for 2010. first one ever (at UQ) for a windsurfer! Mostly rugby union players get them.

Wow, thats fantastic. I never knew that UQ had any sort of windsurfing program/interest. I suppose it really helps that RSX is an olympic class.

Good luck to her!

so what is the verdict? are we going to use the official windsurfing youth age or the general 'accepted social sport age'?

It will be great fun either way, but it is nice to know how smashed we are going to get if we are going in open

For a 80kg traveller, "me".

Can you guys give me indication of the size boards & sails most suited to Burrum

Icesurf,
Apologies in advanced for not being too helpful, but quiver selection will be dependant on forecast for the week, although I'll (being 88kg) probably take my iS122 for light wind & iS76 with maybe 4 sails (8.8, 7.7, 6.6 & 6.1). Like any competition we are really in the lap of the wind gods (Huey and Gestalt) - High probability of wind being between 15 and 25knots during that time of year and it would be very unlikely (although not unwanted) that we'd get 30+knots unless a big High forms down off south east Aus and a reciprical Low to the North.

Sausage thinks for the advice, most helpful.
I'm determined to get a Sail in,
Shipping a range of Equipment to my brothers place in Hervey Bay;
(KA Race 7.9, 7.1m & KA Koncepts, 7.3, 6.4, 5.7m)
3 boards - 67cm, 58cm & 43cm.

Is the speed course Broad or a Normal Reach?

Any point bringing assy fins & if so which tack, Port or Starboard?

cheers, Michael

Hi Michael the fastest speeds have been done on Port Tack 130 degrees but because
the bank is quite curved you can also get some fast runs on starboard tack as well, this also gives different angles of attack. Personally I wouldn't worry about bringing assy fin unless you have a port tack assy.

Hope this helps with fin selection. Wind usually from SSE at that time of year.
White line=2nm.

Yes, I'm more Australian than Kylie Minogue in an akubra

PS - Choco, are you ready to have your South Aussie ar5e whipped (prior to it becoming an honoury Queenslander) in late March along the speed bank?

How about have a Buy sell swap meet at the same time to get rid of some unwanted gear,or donate to younger sailers.

i hung off this one for a while to see if any response came in. seems you got a lot of edit** oops "GREEN" thumbs.

what i would suggest is that you lay your gear out on the ground prior to the briefing. stick a price tag on it and see what happens. there are a couple of hours to kill between shaking off the hang over and the briefing.

will add it to the list for next year.

cheers
JB

Latest News

Pre Registration is now running.

I am seeking pre registration from all competitiors for this years event. If competitors could send an email to windwanderers@netspace.net.au i will email out registration forms asap.

Local SES helping with the event.

The local SES are currently finalising details to assist at this years event with on water boat support during the event. this is great news!

Opening Night Party

We are currently putting together an opening night party! The SES have indicated they are keen to cater the event and a local band is also in talks to play at the gig.

We are looking to confirm numbers of those interested in partying away the first night of the comp. the party is not covered by the entrance fees and will cost approx $30 per head for adults which will cover catering and the band. children will be free. the SES have asked that i confirm numbers before the 5th of march. as part of preregistration could all people indicate whether they would like to attend the party and of course that includes family and friends.

judging on last years number at the end of event bbq we could see a big turn out!

We will still be holding the end of event bbq and presentations which are included as part of the entry fees and occur on the last day.

it would be great to see a keen interest as it's an opportunity to get the family and friends involved in the event.

happy winds
Justin.

I gather with the SES on board if I spring a leak they will be on hand to fix it.

Just think, this might just become the east coast's Ledge to Lancelin..............just without the weed (sea that is), craypot lines and ferals throwing coins at the band (well that depends on how crap they are)

yes , they will be carrying tarps.

with ses were are still finalising the details. but all is looking great.

hmm, i like the sound of the east coast LOC. maybe we can call it the BOC!

we still have a lot of things i the works to keep improving the event. including for next year the wetshirts, freestyle comp and further focus on the festival side of things.. this year most of the improvements have been behind the scenes to date. the biggest leap forward this year is that the local burrum businesses and residents have really thrown their support behind the event. The mood at burrum is that they really want to see the event suceed and are helping wherever possible and also throwing ideas into the mix.

cheers for the people emailing me for pre register, appreciate it.

i also wanted to give the opening night party one more plug and say if you are keen, can you also add in the preregister email that you would like to attend.

I remember that outfit, not a lot of ball room.
SES MENU: Barbeque: Rib Steak & Sausages, Onions.
Tossed Salad
Cheese Tray
Coleslaw
Potato Salad
Asian Salad
Pasta Salad

Bread & Breadrolls

1 Free Soft Drink for each child.

As you can see by the menu, the local folk are really getting behind this event and I would urge everyone to support them.

More local sponsors showing interest in the event.

I'm sure there will be a bucket load of Geeks just waiting to help you out !
if they are too busy getting messy under the table, i'll help you out!
I've set up a few and haven't had any complaints yet

I wonder if the same settings will work in another country (QLD) !!
