Spotty said he could have gone but it is incredibly expensive to do so. Tis a lot easier for the European based sailors to get there than it is for the Aussies.

smoking for a 5.8... interested in what Martins V.M. UFO fin looked like..obviously works. Also questions the need for really small custom boards...

Strange you say that YoYo because AA was riding a custom RRD Speed board....seems to me there IS a need for custom speed boards.

I'd chip in -seriously! If enough us got together with a couple of sponsors, surely we could get our man on the canal.

Slowy could show AA a thing or two I reckon!

Has anyone spoken to Chris about it? Does one need an invite, if it was possible and chris wanted to, then yeh, maybe we need to make it happen??

My bad, just glanced at his gpsss post saw the word "production" (referring to his sail) and assumed it referred to all

Hmmm... looks a lot like a C3 slingshot to me

Has any video been posted yet.

BTW - what would be the total expense of getting Slowboat over there? I assume he could borrow some boards off Anders considering he designed them and I'll loan my GPS

Edit - we can get him from Perth to Capetown for $1800 and then all he has to do is sail (broad reach) 850km's up the coast to Luderitz. can't quickly find what inetrnal flights would cost to Luderitz - if 60 of us threw in $100 each or even $50. Of course if he didn't win we'd want our money back

It;s something like $2000euro a week that you have to pay to compete, over the month $8,000euro + accommodation, food, travel expenses and loss of wages you would be looking at $20,000

The beauty of it is that all this gear just so conventional - similar or the same to the gear anyone of us could turn up with at our local speed-strip.

its not quite that bad - registration is 3000 euro for 4 weeks and anyone interested can register online here:

PS - love the 850km broad reach idea...

Choco found a few pics myself. The fins visibly are not too different from the C3 Slingshots (orange instead of red base , similar plan form) profile are from Frenchman Olivier Ponrouch. Obviously they work and at 169 Euro not too expensive.

mXr UFO Wide 30° :
18/20/22 : 169 €
24/26 : 179 €
28/30 : 189 €

I read on the net that "The top speed of Anders Bringdal today was apparently 51.10 knots (94,64 km/h)! "

Assymetrical boom

am just curious and off topic but can anyone tell me what they can achieve? less drag? comfy? scratching my head

I think Laurie has photoshopped it out for SB's "Find the port side of boom competition" and win a trip to Luderitz. Speedsailors need only apply.

Seriously I would have thought that there's no advantage to using an assy as wind flow over leeward side of sail going that deep would not be affected

Could be to allow a bit more flex? Sail gets deeper and more powerful as it pulls harder. Sometimes a little positive feedback is a good thing.... if you can handle it.

Ian,
Wouldn't the draft end up being all over the place making it more inefficient and as you mentioned, difficult to handle?????

I'd have to sail to New Caledonia if I had one of those.

Not sure, maybe cammy sails don't shift draft all that much with changing outhaul. But unless that boom has a thicker diameter, or is made to a very different recipe to a regular boom, it has to be flexing more. So, either flex is over-rated as a bad thing, or twice as much flex going downwind, for some, is a good thing.

No Men's Australian windsurfing record is currently held!

I'm happy to be shown as being wrong but my understanding is that Yellow Pages holds the official Australian speed record over 500m. I don't 'think' there is a specific mens or ladies category. Sailrocket just bettered it a week or so ago in Walvis Bay but it wasn't official as they did not have an official watcherer person and they didn't measure it using trimble devices.

Words from AA:

"The first few runs were quite scary, especially the first one knowing how narrow the strip is but after two days we all go nuts but still need to be careful.

During one of the run on Tuesday I almost went on the windward bank something that has never happened to me before!!

The wind is definitely here, it wasn't a storm but everyone says it can blow around 60 knots, so with the 35-42 knots wind we had I think we can go faster!!!

Really looking foward to 10 more knots but again we need to be careful in the narrow section and the deceleration zone, only 100m after the last camera..."

As for Cedric Bordes, he is quite used to these nuclear wind conditions:

Dunkerbeck is with his wife who's expecting a third child... and Finian has dropped from the speed scene I believe.

I was just going off the table in the attached report.
There is a column for Men's and Women's Kites, M & W Windsurf and Boat.
I just found it strange that there was no result for the Men's Aussie windsurf column.
Surely there is an official record or Luderitz record?
