Just in: Batman sets the record for Gotham City.. 75knots on the Batboard and Batwing sail combo..
Rumor has it, The Batboard was hollow and had 50 live bats inside. This board created incredible lift as all the trapped Bats had been trained to fly upwards while inside the board, reducing hull drag..
Afraid of being disqualified for using too much physics, Robin was captured trying to explain the lift as an Aerodynamic phenomenon..
They also struggled to find a compatible roof rack for the Batmobile, which they were using to return to the top of the run..
(Just an excuse to recycle this .gif that I spent so long on!)
Luderitz is going off new world records men & women, PB;s National Records men;s 49.66kts Cedirc Bordes
More like 50 now... They've been knowing for an hour, but there is still no name nor accurate speed out... That's not very nice for those of us staying up...
They are not posting any more results from the looks of it, that can only mean one thing, that the records are being broken with every run.......if the wind has dropped I am sure they would give final results for the day.

Awesome speeds getting layed down by all,. ^^^hows AA's hispeed lay down at the end
looks like the 50 - 500m has been broken by Anders on the the Chris Lockwood designed Mistral, await the details as to which one?. Great work Chris, at least we had some form of Aussie presence over their, maybe next year, would be great to get funding to do an all out Aussie assault properly.
Antoine and Cedric pushing hard as well, even on a tandem setting records. News of Antoine crashing? hope the damage if any is not too bad, that narrow channel with the windward bank weaving in and out would certainly be a challenge or at least a bit un-nerving at 50.
Looking at Antoine 99kg, Anders, 103kg, Spotty 114kg at the moment (2009 record weight) I might have a chance, would be interesting to know what extra weight they are carrying?. I know I was over 120kg all kitted up on the big day back in Sept 2009.
Steady wind flat water and the ability to hold it down whilst balancing everything on the fin and the boards tail is what it takes, good luck to all there, take care and at least stick a helmet on you guys.

"Edit 17.30 GMT - Anders Bringdal broke 1st the 50 knots with 50.41 knots and then 50.46 knots! Antoine beat him after with 50.59 knots
Also some posts are indicating that Antoine has had a crash into the bank, wrecking his gear and possibly injuring his back, I hope this part is not true.
Zara Davis has increased the Womens outright record to 44.69knots, this was done about midday with no further reports this afternoon when it seems a lot of the faster times were recorded. Maybe it will be even more than this by now."
Full sets of results from what I can find online so far - with links to any posts on GPSSS

+ why the top hand grip from Antoine looks uncomfortable?
Wow just wow. How big must AA's feet be looking at those footstraps too.

Wow! They did it! I hope AA is ok. I'm sure we will hear more, and if they get more wind in the coming weeks these numbers will be history.
On the 41/42 it's the same board. It's actually 41.7cm wide and we originally called it a 42. But the stickers were made with the truncated value of 41.

t the Luderitz Speed Challenge. Congratulations to Antoine and Anders!!! We are expecting a baby this week, afterwards I´ll be joining them at the Challenge!! ;-)
So long, Björn
its all happening - and it looks like the sail rocket did an over 60 knot peak somewhere in the world- with a 54 average.
If you are going to go, you mights well sail!
It is my considered opinion that there is no reason why all the top Aussie speedsters could not go at least just as fast as everyone else over there. At least a few would be pushing the 50 knots and many more would be in the high 40's.
The shame is that even if we have the opportunity to go next year or later, the really exciting one is missed forever. This is the one where all the great leaps are being made. I hope I am wrong, but I think there will never be another one where so many records are smashed by so much. Sure, there will be improvements, but they will be less shattering than this first one. Everyone will remember this one.
A story: Many years ago in my youth, I had the opportunity to join the first Kayaking expedition down the Sun Kosi river in Nepal. At that time it was really cutting edge stuff. Big water, remote, unknown, pushing the limits at the time. I trained with the team for a year but when the time came to put up the cash to book my place, I blinked. I had only just started my first year of teaching and the $3000 required seemed like a huge amount of money. I would have had to borrow it and I was also worried that about the disruption to my infant career. The organizers told me not to worry and there would be other trips. They envisioned it would be a regular thing.
As it turns out, there were no more opportunities. Certainly none that resembled the original famous expedition preserved forever in the film of that event 'Sun Kosi, River of Gold".
It is one of my biggest regrets that I did not just hock everything and go. (probably the equivalent of roughly $20,000 today)
I see similarities with this event in Namibia. Hopefully, even though we have missed this one, there may be opportunities to experience something like it in the future.
