I am intolerant of the Christian ideology, not Christians.. Most Christians are very nice people.. It's the system thats the curse upon humanity, it is a morally bankrupt doctrine based on the notion that we are all born sinners because some ancient ancestor ate the wrong fruit... It's the celebration of a human sacrifice..

For example, I can tolerate a muslim being upset about criticism of their paedophile prophet, but I won't tolerate the violence which stems from that, and neither should you, or anyone. Your list is mostly about your grotesquely distorted idea of Christian beliefs. Most of the mind-numbing nonsense you dribble on about I'd have to say I probably agree with, but it's only because it is such nonsense.

My point (I do get sick of illiterates who won't/can't read) is that the tolerance brigade are the most intolerant. Intolerant of anybody who disagrees with them. It's not within your worldview to accept that anyone might have a legitimate right to a view different to yours. You're utterly unable to put together a cogent, coherent argument for your point of view, or against my point of view, instead simply deferring to ad hominem and straw man arguments. You think that by plucking some fanciful numbers or "so called" facts out of your rear orifice that I should lie down and adopt your point of view. I can, have been and will be in the future, swayed by intelligent argument. It's just that there won't be any coming from you (or loggie for that matter) in the foreseeable future.

As an aside, and being genuinely sympathetic, it is fairly obvious that you were "inappropriately abused" by someone masquerading as a Christian at some time in your life. You need to deal with that, as it's presently a cancer eating you out from the inside. There's no future in the level of bitterness which you harbour.

Anyway you don't need to be sympathetic to me dinsdale, I've never let any priests or their flock get near me.... . . But I went to a new school once, and the teacher made me write a letter to God, and made me attach it to a helium balloon which we released into the atmosphere.. That was pretty traumatic, I was convinced that my new school was quite insane...

So for example if I say, I don't want religious chaplains in schools that's not an attack on you but the policy and the idea of indoctrination of children, yeah?

As far as I can find out the Jews do stun the animal before cutting its throat - at least Jews in western countries (and that includes Israel). I only know 1 Jew and she says that's the case anyway. Seeing as no-one else knows how I'll Google it up later when I have more time.

As for animals being slaughtered for general western consumption, they have their throats cut absolutely asap after either stunning or killing. It all comes down to what that bolt thingy that they use on the animal's head actually accomplishes. I've never even been in an abattoir, but I understand that the very 1st thing which must be done is to drain all the blood. That's certainly the way all the hunters I know do game animals.

As far as I know the only religion which requires cutting the throat of a live, conscious animal is Islam, and it is required to be conscious. There may be some obscure small groups which require the same, but I'm unaware of them.

Well I'd argue the exact opposite! I posted a link some time back to a Koran you can read and study on line. I do study Islam, and you're 100% wrong on that argument. No matter where they move to around the world the devout ones still do it. Islam, btw has 2 sacred texts, the Koran and the Hadith. They take doctrine from both and you must read both to piece together their doctrines. The stuff about beating women is in the Koran and the Hadith and the genital mutilation stuff is in the Hadith.


So why would I quibble with the thrust of that, which Hitchens himself sums up as, "Genital mutilation is NO joke."? Singling me out (... and even dinsdale but I doubt my luck there) just speaks to heart of the fact that you have no idea at all about what Christians believe or do.

Where loggie thought he'd never support John Howard, I thought I'd never support Hitchens, but that little clip I'd support 99%. (He does make a couple of isolated very airy fairy generalisations, but the main thrust of what he had to say was spot on.)

A complete aside: I spent 9 years in the Oz military, during the Vietnam war. My Dad spent >4 years in the military in the islands during WW2. There are, under some circumstances, some very real health benefits to male circumcision which have no religious bearing.
