In other durry news. Sounds like cott is gonna ban the darts on the beach. Hopefully other beaches follow that example!!!
As a smoker of 20 years I swore I'd never become a nazi ex-smoker.
But I am.
Weak fkers you stink. Grow a pair and give it up.
My neighbour smokes. Its great to be in my vegetable garden (no tomato plants) inhaling her harmful smoke.
I think most people, even smokers agree. Its a terrible habbit.
So why doesn't the government just ban smoking in all public places, ban the sale of the substance?
Because Government is addicted to the revenue smokers provide.
And just to clear the legality up about my behavior. i was smoking outside of the outdoor part of the resturant sitting on a public bench probably 4 metres away. LEGALhttps://www2.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/tobacco-reform/smoke-free-areas/outdoor-dining-or-drinking-smoke-free
I switched continents to avoid smoking - going from the smoke infested UK in the 70s to California. I figured at the time it would take the UK at least 30 years to reduce its smoking rate, which turned out be about right. California figured that out decades ago. I remember taking copies of scientific papers to HR in the UK spelling out the pernicious nature of second hand smoke, but they were oblivious. So I left, for that and other reasons.
Mate bought a tobacco franchise outlet 8 months ago. Apparently the increase in prices is resulting in a corresponding increase in crime as in illicit manufacture and import. Shades of prohibition. Who would have thought that would happen!
They are trying to ban it. However we are not under your reign ADOLF HITLER so they dont. Its called being allowed to make your own choices. However if your choices are effecting those around you in a public place then they make laws / rules.
YOU DONT SEE ME GETTING TIPSY AT PLAYSCHOOL DO YOU ? NIGEHH
Oh man you don't get it.
Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's always considerate, thoughtful or safe.
As for the prohibition of durries, look at what happened to alcohol in the 1920s in USA.
On a side line, if alcohol and cigarettes were introduced as a new product today, they wouldn't get through to the public for sale as they are so harmful.
Using this same logic why not ban people taking pets to the park, ban picnics, ban events in public parks?
Smokers I hate the stench
However love the whiff of a nice cigar
Coming from a cafe
That was yrs ago though, it was a cultural thing
When I lived in France
Unsure if it's still allowed today
Allrightythen, here is a bit of a different perspective, from a former pack a day smoker.
I loved smoking, from the very first one at 17 to the very last one at 23, and because I loved it so much, I figured that I could be in trouble, because I loved pot as much, a double whammy. At 23 I moved away to a new area 300 miles from where I grew up and lived up until then, college. Now would be the time to quit, all my smoking friends were 300 miles away from me, cold turkey was the call, I could do it, and I didn't know anybody yet.
It worked, and it really wasn't that bad, but I will admit, being w/o friends really helped, in fact, it helped a lot!
But to this day, I love the smell of a cig first being lit, something about that first exhale smell so good to this day, and I quit 43 years ago.
I could go back so easily, but I won't, pot on the other hand...........
^^^ You are subject to other smells, lets say diesel buses and trucks. I find that objectionable.
Back when I smoked, I agreed with the bans on smoking in cafes, pubs n clubs, sports stadiums etc. Anyone who smoked there was inconsiderate in my view. Even as a smoker I agreed with those laws
But I still think banning it in the park is over the top. That makes it illegal to have a cigarette in the middle of a footy ground at 3am, in a town of 200 people. Bloody ridiculous. Yes, there will always be some inconsiderate wanker - so the law should probably be that you can't smoke close to people and are liable to a fine if you don't move away when asked. It is dumb that I could not have a smoke 3m downwind of my friends or family in a howling gale, in a public open space. But then they provide bins for junkies' in the same park's dunnies
Was down the doggy park with my hound the other day (very large park), and was chatting with a lady dog owner whilst we were both puffing away.
We were at least 30 metres downwind of soccer playing kids in at least 15 knots.
A soccer dad approached us and ask if we could "move on" as the children, could SEE us smoking.
My first thought was to poke this guy in the eye with the hot end as the way he approached us was very cop like.
My second thought was to tell / explain to him that the only person who has noticed us smoking was himself.
My third thought (which was the only thing that stopped me from telling this ^^^t to ^^^k off ) was that I was doing some good ground work on lady dog owner, and would have hated for her to see anything but the true gentleman that I am.
So we moved on.
To her place
The "designated smoking area" has a blurred boundary.
As if smoke knows where to stop and hence go no further.
One might argue that smokers could be banned from a number of places ...
due to their hair and clothes being toxic and contaminated with known carcinogens.
To the smokers out there: (how can I say this in a delicate way)
People hate being anywhere near you.
lol. Sorry.
And quit playing the victim card, it's getting old.
